To me the story is as ridiculous as saying

"Hitler hated all jews and wanted them dead" and the headline being

Man wants all jews dead in sick Hitler tribute

If you are not going to keep things in context then it's stupid even reporting on it

That's not really out of context, though. that's wild misrepresentation of facts.

Out of context would be like the time I was talking about how I hate Dwarves [in Dragon Age: Origins] being quoted as simply "I hate Dwarves" without explaining that I mean the fantasy race and not people with Dwarfism.

Ridiculous, the Daily Fail do indeed need silencing.

Let's face it. It's a highly theoretical and unlikely situation but:

Put yourself in their situation. Not the Daily Mail. I mean Brian and Stewie. Or maybe Marty McFly. If you bugger up history, you best try hard to put it right. And frankly, in the interest of causality you would HAVE to make sure 9/11 happened. But let's face it, it's not reality. It's a cartoon.

Or, let's do it properly. Forget the above. If you COULD travel back in time, you'd just make damned sure EVERYTHING is how it should be with the exception that the Daily Mail never, ever starts.

Paradox.

If the Daily Fail doesn't exist, you aren't aware of it needing to be stopped in the past.

If you don't stop it, it forms. Needing you to stop it.

GOTO START

But then this thread wouldn't exist, and I wouldn't be the popular person I am now.....I'd let off my secret stash of WMDs in anger and cause wordwide destruction and the start of Judgment Day.

You see what you've done now, you selfish person! You've killed millions! Proud of yourself? Huh!!!

On a similarly theoretical note, I agree though. If you went back in time, stopped a single act of aggression that cost 3000+ lives but by doing so caused the loss of millions of lives, wouldn't you go back? If you did go back and change it and the first thing that happened has now happened again, you would, in a sense, be happy of that, knowing that millions of lives are saved at the cost of the few thousand.

Obviously Family Guy worded the high five text to be controversial but the sentiment is there..."thank god 9/11 happened......[because we just saved millions of lives]"

MK-2 DOES IT AGAIN!

IS THERE ANYONE THIS MAN DOESN'T HATE?!

:p

OK, I'm done now.

It's one of those "For the greater good" things. But, TBH, you need to be pretty cold to actually condemn people to death, even if you know it'll save millions.

This reminds me of something I read, many years ago....

It was a book about Vietnam, and the training that takes place.

The question was:

You're the driver of a full bus, going downhill. You have sheer walls to one side, and a sheer drop to the other. The brakes fail, and as you shoot down the mountain, you see a woman on a bike in front of you. You cannot stop. Do you....

a) Run the woman on the bike over, or

b) Drive the bus off the edge of the mountain?

What would YOU do?

P.S. I'd like to get the Spock quote from Wrath Of Khan in first!

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few"!!!!

B. Go over the ledge. Get everyone to jump out of the bus as it falls, catching on to nearby trees. [iIRC, trees like to hang out near the bottom of mountains... or something.] Everyone survives. Plus I get a medal or something for being awesome.

And yes. I DO have an answer for everything. It may not be right. But I have it.

I would run the lady over, sadly, although trying very hard not to, very obviously!

I agree with the Spock saying above though but I share a very logical viewpoint on it too.

It's a hugely theoretical subject but in that split second of a decision, that single lady could be the hub of an entire community, she could have 40 grandchildren, 10 siblings, be the chairlady of the local samaritans and NSPCC etc and you could be driving a bus full of convicts. How would you possibly know?

And let's put some Daily Mail spin on it.

You run the lady over - you're a cold hearted murderer.

You avoid her and go hurtling over the cliff, killing yourself and all your passengers. You're a cold hearted murderer.

it doesnt say what the bus is full of? if it's full of pillows i'd still run the lady over because she hypothetically shortchanged me earlier at the post office.

It also doesn't say who the lady on the bike is. If it is your wife/sister/mum/daughter, you may have a different answer than if you don't know her (or of course know her and hate her!:))

Mother in Law?

Officer - I thought you said the breaks failed?

Driver - They did, I then found the gears worked, Afer slowing down i was able to stop

Officer - Why does it appear she was run over several times then?

Driver - *Whistles innocently* No idea officer
