sidewinder Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Got a quote from a supplier we've used before for a new projector + new cabling + fitting, and given their quote I would essentially be paying around £250 for the cables and installation. Is that reasonable? In some cases I could do the actual projector swap myself, but the cabling and wallplates here are very tatty/haphazard hence why I like the lot replaced.
Millgate Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Depends really on how many men they've quoted you & if it's only one day. It not the worse i've seen though 1
Oaktech Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 it also depends what kind of job they do. i used to be charged out at £300 per installation to cover my time, cables, fixing and trunking. bracketry was always in the equipment quote. I did what was considered a well above average job. so £250 for a mediocre job is pretty usual. 1
FragglePete Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Seems about right, we pay around that for them to be professionally installed and that includes the cables. The key word here; professionally installed. If you have a problem with an install that the projector falls off and hits a student, you can go back to the company. Do it yourself, and if it happens questions would obviously be asked if the correct bolts, procedures, etc were done during the install. Pete 1
SimpleSi Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Reasonable price if fitting new mount in new location Si 1
sidewinder Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 That's ok then. Yes in most cases the mount needs to be at least moved or changed, since our older projectors are usually half a mile back, ridiculously low or just in completely the wrong place (a lot were done before I arrived and the phrase bodge job comes to mind) I've used the company before a few times and have always been extremely happy with the work, so no problem with the quality, just wondered about price. Also, yes I quite like not being liable if a projector falls off the ceiling!
witch Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I have 4 quotes for this very thing and the install bit varies between £180 and £275. This includes amp and speakers
Busybub Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Sounds cheap to me, especially for London/M25!
themightymrp Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 £250 sounds about right, thats around what we pay for a full install.
Marc-Engineer Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Hi normal price for a FULL install including whiteboard is £350, projector only (depending on ceiling) is around £150 plus mount if old mount is unavailable or unusable, mount costs £75 for a good one. But in some locations if old mount is available and adaptable we have installed for £45 (one hr cost) we ALWAYS make sure the ceiling mount will take an average persons weight as we all know at some time some one will try to hang from it and if it comes off……….So ALL of our installs are tested to that spec.
