Spare Remote Controls

Where do people buy spare/replacement remote controls from? I've been burned in the past trying to get controls for end-of-life projectors, so want to get a spare or two in now whilst they're still readily available...

Good idea, thanks. Only one of them on ebay, though, and that is in the US (that said, unless they want silly money for postage, it will still be cheaper!).

Tried Amazon, they don't have controls for this projector (the new Casio LED ones, XJ-A140 to be precise).

We've used KPMS for spare remotes, prices vary on the models required but the ones we purchased did the job.

I've given up buying remote's they just get lost and am fitting projector controllers instead, they cost about £120 for the kit we have been using and are great, universal and never grow legs or go walking any more or need batteries. So fine cost a few £ but handy in that they no longer go missing. All our new rooms to be re-built have them in as part of the basic specification of the room

I've considered teacher remotes before (one of our previous projectors came with both in the box), however found them annoying - our staff are more than capable of finding the buttons they routinely need whilst ignoring the others, so don't need a "dumbed down" one, and were on occasion inconvenienced by not being able to change contrast etc.

Some options are a lockable cage that houses the remote and is attached somewhere convenient on the wall. It even has a mirror to reflect the ethernet waves

 

The other backup option is to buy a half decent universal remote and program it for all of your projector types. Really handy if you have mixed types, we even gave one to the night watchmen, so he can walk around and turn off all different types from one control. You can download codes, if they are available, or just use an existing remote to program it, and i'm pretty sure if it's a good one, you can back up the programming.

I get third-party replacement remotes from Wallis UK - Specialist distributor of Remote Controls, Replacements and LCD/Plasma TV supports. I'm lucky in that we don't have many go walkies though.

Thanks Vikpaw, I hadn't thought of the universal option. It is possibly cheaper to buy spares though, since we only need maybe 3 or 4 different types (noting that Epson remotes seem to be universal).

 

We don't have that many remotes go walkabout, and when they do it isn't usually for long, however spares are handy. The site team don't need to go round turning the projectors off, either, as I have set them to automatically turn off when not in use.

I bought one on eBay in the end. Annoyingly, I got it from the US for $20 plus $10 shipping (£18), rather than £30 in the UK. Why do so many tech manufacturers have a laugh with exchange rates? My cousin is in the States, maybe I should start asking her to buy everything for me and post it across!!
