Law 10.4 ...

 

Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground such that the player’s head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play.

 

 

Referees have been told that this is a red card offence.

I'm half Welsh... 100% Welsh when it comes to rugby and I'm afraid I was the only one in my house saying that it was a dangerous tackle and he had to go.

 

I don't care if other referees haven't enforced this law, that's a different problem. The victim of this tackle was lucky not to have been paralysed.

 

I'm gutted that Wales didn't go through, but the referee was correct.

I was brought up in a Welsh, rugby-mad household and I am also gutted.

 

However, I agree - the ref was absolutely correct - he was following the rules. Other refs didn't - not his problem, I'm afraid...

 

As for getting at the ref because he is half French and half Irish is just completely out of order. Implying, or even stating, that he was biassed is an appalling accusation, and one for which there is NO proof at all.

Didn't knw he was half-French, tbh, the other reference I made was to a song by Max Boyce, which, years and years ago, we all laughed at and thought was a) Hilarious and B) Harmless. A reference which, I'm sure, all Welsh, rugby-mad households will know and love. Food for thought, there, perhaps.

 

I know the law, as do others, but when all independent pundits agree that it was at best, a yellow card offfence, I tend to agree with the people who have played the game at that level.

 

There was a ridiculous offside given against Australia in the other semi. Another case of applying the letter of the law rather than the spirit of the game, but I guess I'd better keep my head down, now, and not mention it anymore
