i can't believe how quickly i have progressed over my first play though, i was level 46 on that when i gave up, im currently level 41 and played for about half the time! barely touched the main quest either...

how did you guys play it? i like my heavy armour and my glass greatsword....

I'm still playing it, appropriately partnered with a ridiculously long list of mods and the official DLC packs - using Nexus Mod Manager to keep it all organised, I just can't find this game tiresome - same applies to Fallout 3/NV, there's always something out there to add to these games that completely refreshes it for you :) 'tis why I love PC gaming that allows for modding communities, they keep even the oldest of games alive. In my opinion, at least.

EDIT: The way I play.. well, as sad as it sounds I find myself roleplaying while I'm playing the game and I actually go into character. I'm currently playing as an ex-Imperial Soldier (who, ironically, is an Imperial) who saw the light after realising the current Legion are a corrupt force. He's not too sure if he'll fly the Stormcloak flag or if he'll go his own path, but he'll get there.. one day... I'm Morgan Freeman.

But yeah, I'm doing a cross of one-handed and archery - his primary 'side skill' is Smithing, but he may delve into some Alchemy. But Archery is so fun, it's jolly good fun to pick off a group of bandits one by one whilst sneaking, saving the leader til last so he has time to change his underwear first. Mwuahahah!

@X-13 You're wise to not buy games you doubt you'll like, unfortunately I haven't learnt from that one - I'd say more than half of my Steam Library alone is full of games I've bought and not even loaded to the main menu for the first time..

As before, I maxed out my character, but there are lovely cheeses you can work with..

Potion to improve smithing, use it to smith better armour (say gloves), then enchant the gloves to make better potions, then make better potions, rinse and repeat.

My base armour is something like 64000 before enchantments, with enchantments which add additional armour/health/stamina etc I think its around 72000...and my arrows do around 9000 damage per hit.

I must admit on the other hand I enjoy messing around with the console (on a separate/dedicated 'freeroam' save of course) - spawning lots and lots of stormcloaks and lots of lots of legion soldiers, throwing a dragon in, maybe some trolls... it's a nice sight to sit back and see who wins :p Oh and doing setscale 0.2 on Giants and Mammoths, hehehe :) Edited by Fleetwood

they;re the kinda tricks i need to get around to doing....

Be prepared for many hours of tedious dullness...as it is the same cycle over and over and over and over...I think around 200-300 times or so before you get to the absolute top of the chain.

oh yes, but you can use this as well for 100% price haggling to get things from the merchants for 0 septims -1 septim...so it works for everything. Health/Stamina wise it will give a maximum of 1000% of health, but with the armour as it is, you don't need it (I had dinner and my character stood there whilst a legendary dragon was smashing him up, and I was down maybe 2 health after the hour)

Did this with Final Fantasy 7 once. Tooled Cloud up to the max with a magic counter/health and mp absorb combo. Took on Ruby weapon and went for my tea, cvame back half an hour (and 1 million HPs) later just in time to watch the damn thing die! Couldn't grind like that again!

That's exactly why i haven't got around to it, saying that I'm doing a lot of enchanting and making iron daggers just to build smithing up.... just reached speech level 70 too, so I'll be able to invest in shops so they have more money available....

Good times, I remember those epic multi hour grinds for the weapons!

Yeah they were so frustrating! Ruby was easy compared to emerald. Just come into the fight everyone dead except cloud, cloud with 3 x mastered knights of the round linked to mastered magic counter, hp absorb and mp absorb and a mastered life materia linked to final attack and you could let that one resolve itself without ever giving a command.

Emerald was the bane of my life back then, it always had some way to finish you off just when you were getting close to victory...

I agree it is dull to do, but seriously. Once its done, you will be glad you've done it. Also you can dual enchant as well so on your final set of armour, you can have insane buffs.

Helmet - gives 10000 armour + breathing under water + +100% lockpicking ability

Armour (chest) - gives 30000 armour + +100% health + +100% healing

Boots - gives 19000 armour + +100% stamina + +100% resist shock

Gloves - gives 10000 armour + +100% block + +100% one handed

Shield - gives 3000 armour + 100% resist fire + +100% resist frost

Amulet - gives +100% resist magic + -100% fortify barter (prices are 0 or 1 septim for everything)

Ring 1 - +100% resist disease + +100% resist poison

I could add fortify armour in replacement for something, but that would double my armour and its already pretty high.

Thanks to a potions mod, when I drink potions of archery (secondary weapon) or one handed (primary weapon with the shield), it boosts the ability by 100x. So a 90 damage arrow will do 9000 damage or a 125 damage sword will do 12500 damage.

Ahh the back end of FF vii is so so good! So much more to do. all the Chocobo breeding, weapon hunting, 4th level limit break getting, finding everyone's final ultimate weapon, the north cave!!!

Ahh it's marvellous stuff!

Isn't playing the game a little boring at this point?
