We've all been there, teacher says they've tried everything, checked that everything is plugged in but they still say the computer won't turn on.

Today (Oct 5th 2011), the unbelievable finally happened - their computer ACTUALLY won't switch on - genuine psu/switch/mboard fault!

10 years I've been doing this and its finally happened :)

Well I took HD out of it and put it in another unit and the other unit works so I think that confirms it :(

But on the bright side - I've finally got a real hardware fault to investigate - I might even get my multi-meter out :)

Its the PSU - cross coupled it from another base unit and it worked - luckily only 2 months old so now the joys of getting FS tech support to believe that I know what I'm taking about and please just send me another PSU :)

Check for any signs of Coffee! I had a teacher once saying her laptop stopped working, it stank of coffee and wouldnt admit that she spilt coffee over it. Dragged it out of her in the end!

Or beer. Our head of science once spilled beer on his laptop. I replaced the keyboard but I think the damage had been done as it then started to have seemingly random faults, so we made him buy another laptop.

I just had the fun of a psu go -nice to revert to my old electronics test tech days - except for that moment when it blew up of course!

Sad news is, replaced the psu but now have no video signal :(
