Dos_Box Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 (edited) Seen flitting through our garden this morning was a small tortoise shell butterfly, of which we haven't seen many of this year. Unfortunately, we have seen a lot of garden spiders and the females are feeding up atm. This one is having butterfly for lunch. Isn't nature wonderful? Edited September 27, 2011 by Dos_Box

mattx Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Nothing wrong with those - because of my arm I have not been able to do much photography this year as I have been unable to hold the camera for long periods. I'm having a minor op on it Tuesday so hopefully two years of pain and hassle may be coming to an end. featured_spectre Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 I took a snap on my phone of a sparrowhawk earlier...here it is [ATTACH=CONFIG]11437[/ATTACH] They like our house as we have a den of foxes under our shed, and they take the scraps the foxes leave behind (the foxes themselves rarely enter our garden unless its to dump the food, but thankfully the birds take it after...win win win win win! lol

There's a sparrowhawk where I live which I've seen in the garden three or four times. Do they take pigeons and collared doves? If so that might explain why the house opposite no longer has 40+ pigeons roosting on it at night.

mattx Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Did you see it to the end? Who won?! The wasp tends to win one on ones as they can sting multiple times. They tend to lose when they go into the hives and the guard bees surround them and crush and cook them. Not a very good site to see sometimes checking over a hive when there has been a large wasp bee fight.....
