Im currently working (not yet complete) on a display to show the inside of a pc LINK and was wondering if anyone else had done anything similar, im looking for my next project and not sure what would be best to attempt!
synaesthesia Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I've helped with one very similar in the past but didn't go quite as far as I would have liked. We did a near identical display but with a second board for the kids to play with below - with part names and a switch so they can press it and a bulb lights next to the component. What I was planning to do was wire some power to some parts too - mostly the hard drive, optical drive, floppy drive and fans so when the button was pressed they would spin/spin up for a few seconds. Was a great idea, it was a primary school and some of the kids in KS1 could fully identify every internal part of a computer. Wish I got to doing the last bit though!

kmorrisuk Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 Hammer was needed. Staple gun didnt quite go in far enough! It powers up and works and you can connect a working monitor/mouse/keyboard/usb drive etc The PC im thinking was about 6-7 years old, 20GB hard drive!!!!! Opened the power supply so the kids could see what was inside! Plastic outer casing has been made today ready to go over the display once i have added the label/text Thanks for all the replys

Not to mention the absence of a certain Output device.... I'd get rid of the 3.5" Floppy too. The blue diamond shaped pills that are behind the micropore in the first aid box should sort that out Neat - I'd have left the cover on the power supply though! Should add some extra "fizz" to the display
kmorrisuk Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 I have a cpu and ram to connect up to it they will not be on the board but part of the box below so the students can connect everything. Same goes for replacement cables for the ones that have been cut!. Its a learning board, things had to be broken down to show the internal workings!
