Projector suggestions

Got a project to kit the hall out with projector + screen , got about 2k budget on the projector

looking to get a 4:3 4x3m screen

 

Just looking for suggestions for a suitable projector, the choices are quite bewildering! We had a suggestion of using a sanyo xm-150

but not sure if this is everything we need / futureproof

 

Throw distance is about 7:65m to the screen altho could be shorter or longer - doesn't matter really.

 

Any suggestions ?

We've installed the Mitsubishi XL6600U in a couple of Schools now, and been pretty impressed with it. It's a little under £2200, so a touch over budget, but it is 6000 lumens, and we haven't had a single problem with our ones.

The sanyo is 6000 lumens too, not sure if it's a large venue projector or whether that matters.

The projectors look similar spec, except the mitsi is dlp (not sure of speed or segments) and the sanyo is LCD (maybe people are prone to rainbow effect)

Nice suggestion, similar price to the sharp. Im wondering if we need 500 lumens and maybe go a model down and get a 4000 lumen instead eg the 2250.

Got decent enough curtains in the hall so shouldn't really be a problem, especially after using a portable 4000 lumens for assemblies for the last year.

would highly recommend Sanyo, we have a POC-XP57L in our hall and its an excellent unit.

We've been running 2 sanyo XU75s in classrooms for 2 years without a hitch,

then again we run various manufacturers without any problems!

Problem with this high end gear there's no reviews online - so have to sit and compare specs.

the plc-xm150 seems to be the winner upto now, just not a fan of taking a sellers recommendations but seems to be the best choice after all.

It might also be worth finding out what the deal is with filters. If it's in a hall it's not just a case of climbing on a table (that's our code word for an HSE approved step ladder ).

That table on the ladder register and has upto date certification / inspected regularly ?

 

sanyo has some filter thing lasts 10000 hours, cant find info on the NEC - won't be me changing the stuff i'm scared of heights !

Just to put my two penneth in i would go for a none DLP as you would need access to be easy for repairs to your DLP machine, they tend not to be as long lasting or reliable as LCD we certanly see more DLP write offs than we should and more than LCD in our workshops.

only had one dlp failure here, but was an old sanyo (I guess we're lucky) - main problem with DLP is rainbow

for classrooms i'd definately push LCD over (cheap) DLP though.

 

i've ran a DLP optoma hd700x at home for 2 years and it's my main display running 4-5 hours a day without any hitches (just rubbish lumens) It's like I live in a cave
