Lync 2010 and SIP Trunk

Hi all,

 

Were looking to get started on the Lync 2010 VoIP world and was wondering if anyone could let me know who they've used as their SIP provider?

Sorry should've closed this a long time ago We wen't with Obit telecom in the end - had to get them to switch things from UDP to TCP packets for the SIP request.

Almost entirely now - still have a few old phones in some areas (waiting on network cable) but other than that Lync runs everything now

 

Are looking at 3CX now as well for a primary we look after - propper digital VOIP systems are certinly the way to go.

One thing Lync does will is the integration with the rest of the MS product line. If you do have Exchange/AD/Office/etc then there's nothing that can touch it.

Many large schools and corporate companies around the world now use Lync as there Full Phone System, a lot of them even choose to not deploy Lync Phones and just use headsets although they all appreciate that some employees do require a physical handset. (they are very good also especially Polycom, Snom etc.)

 

You just need to ensure that if your going to deploy Lync for Enterprise Voice you have the correct infrastructure and it is deployed in the correct manner and not just thrown in. When building the topology and thinking of how your users will use Lync just think about QoE (Quality of Experience) before deploying the service because the last thing you need is you doing no research, not thinking about the finer detail and then your users then getting a bad experience because they will just hate it from day 1.

 

Download the Lync Planning Tool - Download: Lync Server 2010, Planning Tool - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details it's a great application to use although take some of the recommendations with a pinch of salt in regards to how many Servers & Resources it recommends.

When you sign up for Office365 E4 Plan you have your lync servers on premise or hosted for Lync Enterpise Voice.

 

You setup Lync for Office365 Online, configure your DHCP options for Lync phones accordingly and then the phones work just like with a normal Lync environment.

 

The office365 deployment method for Lync Enterprise Voice is pretty much the same as a normal deployment at the moment to be honest because for enterprise voice to work you have to use on premise or hosted servers anyway.
