We're moving all our equipment over the summer, and one of the things I wanted as part of this is a new server cabinet, as the current one doesn't seem very strong, and isnt deep enough to accomodate rackmount UPS's properly because of their odd rails.

But I'm now thinking if it is a waste of money? The current one isnt old, its just not very sturdy. It's from here Dataracks - 19 inch rack computer cabinet and datacenter accessories - Dataracks and has a similar feel to it as Prism cabs

I was thinking about getting one from Server Racks | Rack Shelves | Rackmount Monitors | RackSolutions UK , anyone got one from there before? They look nice and sturdy

APC might be out of your price range but due to the internal cooling and heat extraction, power management etc that might be something worth looking at?

My favourite are Dell cabinets, but if you need something well-made then APC were actually the cheapest I found. A lot less than Dell or Sun stuff and very solid. :)

Thanks.

Having taken another look at it I think I'll leave it, theres nothing wrong* with the current one, so £600 saved here is £600 that can be spent on more useful things.

* Nothing wrong apart from just having castors, which is pretty annoying

The Dells are strong, we have a couple of those with plenty of weight in one, never given any cause for concern. I think they came free as a promotion many years ago.

I have two rack solutions racks and they are very good and strong, well built but also easy to take to bits (we did the other holiday to lay a new floor) nice quality product, although we only have the open frame rack from them rather than a cabinet.

Yeah, we got ours for £1 a few years ago - wish they still did that! :)

I would take the castors off or add additional support underneath, we've had a cab like that collapse on us, not fun.

Just checking the obvious - are you sure it doesn't have screw-down feet? Our APC cab is on castors, then when it's it place you screw down some (very tight!) bolts with feet on from above that are fitted to all the corners. Seems pretty solid after that. :)

It doesnt appear to have any feet, just castors. Having checked said castors they look pretty strained already. I will see if I can buy some feet to put on it - some are listed on Dataracks website but I'm not sure if they sell them themselves or not
