kennysarmy Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 A few weeks ago we upgraded a suite of XP/Office 2003 to windows 7/Office 2010 Unfortunately we had the wrong key embedded in the image so we've run the following on each workstation: Change product key to : Office Professional Plus 2010 VYBBJ-TRJPB-QFQRF-QFT4D-H3GVB Use add remove programs... rearm Office 2010 installation Run C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform\ospprearm.exe @ C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14> run "cscript ospp.vbs /act" We've checked that the CMID is different on each PC with the /dcmid command and that when opening any office application it is saying it is activated. I've amended our network install folder for office 2010 and now changed the key to the correct one and one-off installs also activate successfully and generate a unique CMID. HOWEVER, I've just checked on our KMS server with the command : slmgr / dlv and our current count for Office 2010 is only 10 even though we now have Office 2010 installed on around 70 workstations. Should I be worried even though each PC with office 2010 is now saying it's activated? My KMS server is Windows Server 2003. Are there any commands I can run on the KMS server to see past activations and check which machines are currently the "ten"?
mac_shinobi Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Not sure if this is of any help or use but when doing a client install of office 2010 out our place I had to 1. Flush and re register dns ( ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns ) which is the equivelant of doing a repair on the connection ( a repair does a few more things which may help ) 2. Run As on the setup.exe / msi as a domain admin ( right click on installer file --> run as --> enter in domain admin credentials ) If I did not do both of the above then it gave me an error relating to an xml file but it was not the xml file it was the fact that the client could not reach or communicate with the kms server.
teejay Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Download and install VAMT 2 and use it to scan your network to check the licence keys are ok on your machines. You can then use it to re-activate those that are having problems.
SHimmer45 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 we have just started using KMS licensing on a server and i did notice an odity, we have a couple of Win 7 clients on the network, the KMS was setup ok but the server wasnt being reached from the clients, turned out that one of the Win 7 boxes had registered itself in DNS as the KMS host for the network. had to manually edit the KMS entry in DNS to reflect the correct location.

documentation isnt brilliantly explanative for the process.</p><p> </p><p> Its worth you having a look at this technet post, the bit on the KMS server that you are referring to here I think is the area that can cause confusion according to Microsoft.</p><p> </p><p> <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee939272.aspx" rel="external nofollow">How to troubleshoot the Key Management Service (KMS)</a></p><p> </p><p> You can use VAMT 2 to do the KMS authorisation once you have the workstations selected.</p><p> </p><p> Its also worth adding here though not related directly to what your going through, that you need to also enable the KMS on the servers firewall and check that setting, I didn't and spent a while scratching my head, wondering why everything was in place but none Flush and re register dns ( ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns ) which is the equivelant of doing a repair on the connection ( a repair does a few more things which may help ) \u00a0 \n2.
