IKWeb Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Hello All The School I am at have purchased a bird box, which comes with a phono cable, Yellow, and White only. They thought they would be able to plug this into a PC and watch it on any machine in the school.. Hmmm not the case... Anyway, I now need some kind of box of tricks which has a phono input and a RJ45 connection so the kids can say type in the IP address of this box and up pops the feed which is been connected to the input. Can anyone advise of anything? Thanks

FreeWill Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 An IP Video Server is what you want - commonly they display the video input on a web page accessible by an IP. Having not used one I'm afraid I can't recommend a model, but Axis do them - albeit pricey at £150+

It isn't web based though AFAIK - it requires the use of their software to view it.

I know it allows you to watch Sky over your lan, well, the input would be either phono or Scart, if its scart I could use a phono to scart converter and then plug it in??

steveg Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 We've done exactly this using an old pc, a cheap capture card and a copy of Zone Minder. Also has the benefit that you can set it to record when it detects motion. Steve

Just had a look at the Sling Box Solo, this has a Phono input on the back, so should do the trick... Well fingures crossed anyway
steveg Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 A lot of the places that sell the camera's also do 30m cable extensions, not sure how good the video signal is over that length, although if they sell them I assume they would be ok! Might get it to an easier location. Steve

Not cheap, but makes it all so simple: AXIS 247S Video Server - a compact 1-channel video encoder powered over Ethernet | Axis Communications It live streamed a woodpecker smashing its way into the box and eating all of the chicks in real time and without dropping a frame. You have to pay for that kind of quality!! 1
