Hi,

I am trying to get a windows 7 laptop to connect to an activboard. I have installed via the setup file and gone in manually to configure the install that way but I am having no joy. The driver is the latest from Promethean website. Anyone any suggestions please?

Cheers.

Hi,

What do you mean by gone in manually to configure the install? There shouldn't be anything that you need to "configure" as such. Do you just mean updating the driver via Device Manager?

If you can give me some further info then I should be able to guide you, lets try these for starters...

What model of ActivBoard do you have?

Does it work on other computers?

Did you receive any errors during the install?

Are you using x32 or x64?

Are there any exclaimation marks in Device Manager when you connect the ActivBoard?

Does the ActivManager Icon in the System Tray have a red cross through it?

Are you using USB extenders?

Hi,

Sorry yes meant going through device manager and doing the update driver. Am getting yellow exclamation mark next to the device in device manager aswell as error code 10. Its windows 7 x32, no usb extenders and there is a red cross through the icon in system tray.

I'm not actually at the site where the board is, will be there tomorrow morning. But any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Error Code 10 usually means unable to start the device.

First thing I would do is attach the ActivBoard to a known working system so that we know where the issues lies (I.E. ActivBoard or Computer)

Assuming that the ActivBoard works fine on another system, and ensuring that you are using the admin account on the machine with the issue, first up, update the driver and manually point to \Program Files\Activ Software\ActivDriver\activusb\XP to see if that resolves the issue.

The second reason could be because the ActivBoard isn't receiving enough voltage to initialise - I know you say that there are no extenders but the thing to try is to take a standard 5m USB and connect directly into the ActivBoard Electronics (sometimes the extenders are hidden in trunking as I'm sure you know) Also, some computers do not supply the required voltage to the USB ports so if this is an ActivBoard that is taking power over USB it could exhibit these symptoms if the electronics do not receive the required voltage levels (I will need the Product Code to confirm if this could be the case though)

Let me know how you get on...

Got to this today, plugged it all in powered up and hey presto it was all working. Will have to see how it goes till I go back to the site next week.

Thanks for all your help.

cheers.
