We're working on getting them back up and running, and expect everything to be restored in a few days. The hackers likely obtained the email addresses and encrypted passwords of forum users. Plain text passwords weren't revealed, but short or common passwords could be obtained by brute-force attack. Therefore, we're resetting all passwords. If you have an account on the Epic Games forums, you can request to receive your new password by email it to the address we have on file for you. The Unreal Developer Network (UDN) has not been compromised. None of our web sites ask for, or store, credit card information or other sensitive customer data. We're sorry for the inconvenience, and appreciate everyone's patience as we get our servers back under control.

Call in the FBI, like America usually does with this sort of thing, and just shoot them. X EDIT: I dislike these new reply boxes... So furking awkward to use.
HaleStorm Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 lulz security broke into the NHS systems just to tell them to fix it, and then went on to offer assistence in fixing the holes to keep patient information safe...which for a group of hackers is pretty concencious i think

I vaguely remember something about someone doing something similar a while back. From what I've heard it's a pretty well paid job. Although, showing people how they got in doesn't make up for the fact they've stolen userdata and are threatening to release it.
Butters Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Not sure about targetting games companies, especially Bethseda who can do no wrong in my eyes. They should be going after EA and the DLC masters who will ruin things like CoD.

Not ideal but it then means the company HAS to comply with the relevant Data authority. 2 ways of looking at it. Them as mindless vandals or the companies as irresponsible and not looking after our data properly. A very grey area.

Just send some data TO the company, instead of releasing people's names/adresses/bank details/etc all over the internet. They seem to follow the Aperture science mentality. "We do what we must because we can."

Then why have they just this minute hacked EVE Online (what have they done?) and Minecraft which is an indie success story. They aren't penetration testing, they are only mischief making and are taking requests for servers to kill while we speak. There's something wrong when pirates have a better version of the game than you do. In Ubisoft's case, requiring a constant connection to the Internet to play their games is simply unacceptable IMO.

You'd hardly be over the moon if we all said "yeah that school got what they deserved"

localzuk Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Thing is, they're attacking so many organisations so quickly, including government organisations, that they will make mistakes and get caught - no-one can do that volume of attacks and get away with it. The police aren't *that* incompetent.

MK-2 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 The way I see it, there's a difference between: - Seeing someones front door open and knocking on it and saying "I noticed your door was open, that's a bit of a security risk, you should close it" - Seeing someones front door open, going in, stealing anything in sight, burning the house down then leaving a note on the door saying "I noticed your door was open, that's a bit of a security risk, you should close it in future. We only did this for a laugh by the way"

They must be doing something wrong for this to happen in the first place.

They must be doing something wrong for this to happen in the first place. i wasn't specifically mentioning that. i was mentioning the fact you pretty much said ubisoft deserved it because they make you stay connected to the internet to play a game. if you are going to justify the actions for something like that, then as i said, if a pupil hacks your network because you banned games, would you be happy to lose your job because someone exploited a flaw you perhaps weren't aware of? and i also reiterate my point that if you (sony) left your front door slightly open, wouldn't the honest thing to do be to inform you the door is open and help you close it, not ransack your house and sell your stuff online to teach you a lesson? they aren't crusaders against the evil empire, they are criminals who stole credit card details and then spread them. But they didn't. The stole the data. They're trying to make out it's the companies fault to cover up the fact they're criminals, they were the ones who breached the security, they were the ones to stole data and they were the ones who released credit/debit card details. The security was probably fine. They wanted to teach them a lesson because the disagree with fact they're combating piracy.
