got asked to fix a toaster once....

At least that has electricity and that. A table. Crumbs. Should take it as a compliment I suppose, I reckon she assumes that we must be able to fix anything! (I could have fixed the table but I wanted to eat my chicken more)

I had to unblock a vacuum cleaner.

Blimey, that's dedication. I'd be going nowhere near unblocking a hoover. Unless it was requested by an attractive lady who was in need. ahem.

.... the table needs fixing......

.... wire the table up to use electricity, thus fixing it (as far as you're concerned) and hopefully giving the person in question a good shock the next time he/she 'wobbles' it.

When I was working in edu - I had to fix a 2nd hand PS 2 that was purchased from ebay

One soldering iron + Solder from the science department

Screw drivers etc that were in the I.T Department - side bench in the Server Room

Stripped it apart, had to un solder the mains connectors and re solder them in, put it back together and job was a good one

Worked fine and I could then try and move the power lead at the back without the PS 2 randomly turning itself off or anything.

Not related to this thread or anything but just noticed I have a star :D

Wobbly table? Did I hear you say wobbly table? I have the wobblyest shelves in the world here in the Edugeek office. The MFD is mounted on top of it and when anything goes to print, well, lets just say it looks spectacular as Ric and Shaun found out last week :) I'll get some footage up for you all in the near future as it is well worth a giggle!

a teacher once said to me completly straight faced, "can you take a look at this broken tape player, i dont know if this comes under your remit... but its got a plug"!!

I could have punched her straight in the face. Told her I wasnt allowed to touch it and she should speak to the HT about getting it repaired.
