Won't connect to home internet

Hi all

Have recently installed Windows 7 on my work laptop and at work its ok for wireless and wired internet connections but when I try at home it won't connect wirelesly to my Sky router although has no prolem when directly connected to router.

The network is visible and excellent strength but cannot display pages wirelessly.

I have been connected remotely to Sky engineer and they say it all seems ok from their end and suggest it must be a problem in the configuration for work network but our contract IT engineer says exactly the same from my work end. I am using the correct key as given and validated by Sky so there should be no problem there and on the Connections tab of Properties the proxy server has be unchecked as have all other options been unchecked. Have also tried, in desperation, checking the 'Automatically detect settings' option but that does not help either.

Have you any other suggestions

Have you tried restarting the wireless router, some/most are junk and their software can get into weird fail conditions where you can join but not access IP or you just can't join. Its worth a try.

Have you done an ip config / all to check the ip settings?.

Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections right click on your wireless adapter, properties, ipv4, properties, and make sure obtain IP automatically is set and obtain DNS automatically is set.

Try another web browser, firefox perhaps.

Have got a HP G7000 with a wireless adaptor and with the super hub requires the latest wireless driver installing ( which has some fixes ) to allow it to work with the superhub, I also had to disable one of the options on the super hub and if its win 7 disable the windows firewall , unless you have patched it with regards to the dhcp fault ( think SP 1 fixed the issues ref the dhcp issue )

 

If you want a firewall then either use your routers hardware firewall along with possibly a software one ie zone alarm, comodo etc

 

If you setup the wireless network to start with just as a test as completely open, will it connect then ?

 

If so then you can go from there and enable WEP and test again and if that works then WPA etc etc

 

If all that fails then maybe look at resetting winsock and other things

Does you work have fixed IP addresses to connect to the network?

Yes have tried restart to no avail

was replying to say that all settings are set correct and would expect to be able to access home internet not that I have fixed the problem that still rolls on. Thanks for the interest

Have you tried an alternate browser? - Try firefox portable but dont import any settings if asked?

Going back to basics, before a change of browser. Can you ping the router? an you ping any other PC on your home network? If so, can you ping BBC - Homepage

Anything with windows firewall? or a random software firewall?
