Due to a toilet seat hinge failure yesterday I have to quickly nip out to Homebase down the road to buy a new seat, and it got me thinking. What is it that you only buy once, or every blue moon that would class as a random purchase, and what was the last one you made? A cat nail file? Window Millenium Edition? Let us know. The more obscure the better :)

Hmm. A 2010 rerelease full sized BigTrak.

Before that a ruddy huge 57cm clock for the living room from IKEA

The next one...I predict..a Roomba..heh. Just for the fun of it in the new house - if it works, it'll save me time and less vacuuming. If not, it gets hacked..

Not a particular item, but I went to Tesco to buy 6 things and all of them were on BOGOF. Felt like I must have looked as though I suffered from OCD going through the checkout with two of everything.........

I buy a random piece of tat every time I go to Expo in London. Last time was a hat with cat ears that doesn't even fit.

I'm a sucker for bargain bins. I was in B&Q about two years ago when I bought a set of round metal things for 50p. They're about 3 inches in diameter, hollow, and about 1 inch tall (rather like a very short tube). There's a tab on one end. I've no idea what they are but I've got a bunch of them in the garage.

Could you use them to make perfectly round fried eggs?

Yes, that would work. You could use pliers to grasp the tab to lift them off the pan. Good thinking, Edward de Bono would approve.

During the nice weather we had (yep, forgotten that already) over Easter, we decided to take down a tree in our garden. I got very strange looks in B&Q when I got to the checkout with:

2 x 15m rope

An axe

Heavy duty black bags

Gaffer tape

I bought a candy floss maker as I LOVE candyfloss however, its been used once and put back in the box, the uk sugar is not dry enough to floss well enough so had to sit on the top of the Aga tops (yes I live in a house with an Aga - great for thawing lambs out!) for about a week before it was actually dry enough to floss. I really should stick it on eBay and get shut.

The other random item is Toilet Brushes, there just like the seats you buy them every blue moon.
