Currently Looking at redesigning out website. Probably going to look at Joomla/Drupal/Possibly custom made depending how bored i get.

 

Is anybody willing to let me look at there site to get Ideas?

 

Especially if your schools colour is maroon!!

I'm guessing yours is custom made? how easy is it to edit?

It's currently running on Wolf CMS but I plan to use CMS Made Simple for the next version.

 

Wolf CMS is relatively simple to edit page content text, and anything else that is done via a plugin, but other than that, you'd probably need some PHP code behind it. That's why I've decided not to use it any more CMSMS has a much better interface and a huge repository of quality plugins.

Great Thanks - I'm still waiting on the aproval to start making a new one - I don't want to invest loads of time setting things up for them to turn around and say no!

 

Ours is Currently hosted by E4 Education which its a nice site but needs a refresh - plus i would like to host internally rather then pay the £400 odd quid a year for hosting/Support! Plus although there CMS is good there are still a few bits which you have to get them to setup (like having hyperlinks rather then pages)

I'm in the process of rebuilding our schools website with HTML5 and css3 with a mobile device theme but keeping the same design, on Joomla 1.6. current design is a little bland but I will be spicing it up a little over the next couple of month. Staff can reset students' passwords (generates a random string). 'Locate User' feature parses Event logs from PDC and shows everywhere a student has logged in and out this month.

We are currently developing a new site which we hope to launch in a month or so including a mobile theme. We are taking away the current student / staff sections on our website and moving that sort of content to our VLE - the new website will be aimed at prospective students / parents / job applicants - more of the public image of the school.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I only found Edugeek today! I'm looking to refurb our website - currently hosted by RM and administered in Wordpress. I gave Joomla a try, but without a dummy site online to toy with, I had to work on my local machine and found it mind-blowingly awful to set up. I have no coding know-how whatsoever, so am hoping to use some kind of template that I can doctor to suit our own creative ideas! When I say "no coding know-how", I'm not exaggerating. Wherever my IT skills lie, it's not in coding! iWeb is about my limit! Can anyone recommend anything? Any guidance of any kind would be really appreciated!

there are tonnes of themes out there that offer easy changeable things such as background and fonts built into wordpress itself. some are free some you have to pay for just keep a look out to see what would be best for you, i had to teach myself wordpress and after a few weeks of messing around with css files and php i managed to create a decentish looking website, just depends on your dedication and patience as it can get quite irritating at times, especially if you are in an environment like me with a classroom by our workroom (never any peace and quiet)
