garethEds Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Which version do I choose - the official LEA line is they support Pro, but we have access to Enterprise under our school agreement. What would you guys do? Gareth
mb2k01 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Really up to you depending on the additional features being useful or not. Check the comparison chart out here (better than the MS ones I've seen before): Windows 7 editions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Edit: PS Enterprise my pref due to bitlocker
glennda Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 We've gone for enterprise but thats becuase we are licensed for it - we might not need all the features now but in the future we might
Norphy Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 We haven't upgraded yet but when we do, it'll be enterprise for two reasons: 1) We're paying for SA on our campus agreement so we may as well use it 2) Bitlocker Enterprise is just pro with a couple of brass knobs on so there's really no reason not to use it! Plus i think you get an extra virtualisation license with it too.
jamesfed Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 What I would imagine is they support Pro because Home Premium (the edition 'below it') doesn’t do things like domain join - so going with that reasoning they would support enterprise as well.
SYNACK Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Enterprise all the way, it is automaticlly set to look for KMS also. 1
djwingfield Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I would recommend going down the enterprise Route, the main reason for this that you will get every feature available for windows 7, same as ultimate. The two key features that make enterprise essential for your institute are, Bitlocker to go - Encrypt Staff USB drives AppLocker – Enforce software restriction policies Long term you may want to use Direct Access, for staff laptops.
FN-GM Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Enterprise all the way, it is automaticlly set to look for KMS also. I didnt know that! I have a sysprep that doesnt specify a key. When i setup the KMS server i shouldnt have a problem now. Cheers
featured_spectre Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Enterprise simply for bitlocker...however we are not licensed here for it
pete Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Enterprise unless you care about the LEA not supporting it. Here it wouldn't matter.
ihaveaproblem Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I agree you should go for Enterprise if it's an option. Even if you dont use the added features from the start they are atleast available to use for the future.
