Dos_Box Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 As has been discussed countless times over many threads, there is planty of 'free' and open source software and management tools in use throughout our networks, but what tools are the ones that top your lists of 'essentials' when it comes to renewing/upgrading and purchasing more liceses for. What is it that you pay for that you now almost cannot possibly live without? For me it was NetSupport DNA. An (almost) everything under one roof platform for monitoring, deploying and logging whist being a joy to use. What is yours?

cpjitservices Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 ZenWorks......... Is Zenworks still supported now ? Because the NM where I used to work told me that Netware 6.5 was at end of life ad that there'd be no support for it anymore - unless he just meant the place we worked for.......

Pretty much every school employs a network manger of some description, every school has a similar-ish set of requirements, if every time we needed a bit of software we could all just get together and write it we wouldn't have to pay for any more software again, ever. 1

Assuming that all Network Managers were devs which is not the case. I would and have paid for Office and Windows.
glennda Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Papercut, because it actually saves us money. actually that is one software i would pay for - but preferable would run the network with free software we tried to push Open office but that got vitoed - although alot of the kids use it the it teaching staff wouldn't let us change.
flyinghaggis Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Microsoft Volume Licensing / School Agreement I know some folks complain about it but for the money it costs on an annual basis and the flexibility it offers (ie. freedom to update to the lasest version whenever you like/etc) it's a bargain IMO!
featured_spectre Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Personally - Spotify Premium (love having the songs on my phone, ipod, laptop etc and they all sync without me doing anything!) Professionally - Windows Server 2008R2. Much better than 2003, 2003R2, and 2008 (and anything prior) IMO.
