I'm just trying to see if there is a regional variation, or if schools just try to get away with paying as little as possible for large amouts of skill.

RobC Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Ok, who's the lucky b£%$^rd on 25k+?!? Heheh, I've moved from 10.5k up to 13.5k after my promotion from Technical Assistant to Technician. (Also got made permanent at the same time - 14 months after my two week contract started!)

I started on 46 weeks - and I worked most of my holidays as well as those days I wasn't paid for - I was pretty quickly upped to 52 weeks, and I still don't get to take all my holidays! Last yr I was given a pay rise from 13k to 16. Central IT start thier desktop support guys on 16k - rising to 19k automatically every year - then network support from 19k to 35k. We should do the becta test as well to see what level we all should be on. Then we'll be really pissed! hehe

We only have 500 students, and about 100 computer. That said, I am the only ICT technician here, with loads of work, some big projects, and I can only do them whilst the kids are here Perhaps I am worth the money after all.......

Ric_ Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 £23K just for working during the term!!! I actually fall between 20K and 21K so how do I put that on the poll? Network manager (no assistants) in a school of 1100 little darlings (inc. sixth form) and overseeing approx. 250 clients!

I've just had my pay review and not holding my breath. I've got 350+ PC's, 60 Laptops, 900+ students and a sixth form. I've also got to look after the Adult Education lot, and all the host of other bits we get to look after. I'm a Network Manager and I've got a Technician with me 50% of term time, the other half he is a treaching assistant. My pay does not look too bad at all compared to some of the others. I still think we are worth far more to the schools. Perhaps we just need a month on strike to prove our worth?? hehe
Dos_Box Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 The problem is that teaching staff begin to get up in arms when school staff begin to earn more than them, but things are beginning to change now, albeit slowly. Most schools have twigged on that you cannot employ an IT bod on a low wage for very long before they get poached (usually by the NHS around here) and move on after a year or so.

A neighbouring school [well - 60 miles away ] started employing students from the neighbouring University [Aber - 100 miles away LOL [cracking myself up here - sorry!}} on a year out basis - one neatly handing over to the next. They found the service they were getting was terrible - so now they're advertising for a regular full time tech.. Some poor sucker to pick up the pieces then!

When you compare my wages in same area pretty good hence why at moment not moved but I think what will do is try and get more holiday (on 4 weeks temoted to go for 6 weeks a year) and see if can get title of job changed to network manager (as that is what i am doing anyway might as well have title and it means if school gets nmore money in position to ask for payrise) russ
Dos_Box Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 Thats a good tip actuall. When I first started a guy who is very knowlegable told me to get my job title changed from technician to network manager before I signed the contract as technicinas wages were capped and network managers were not.
