daz666 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Hi all has anyone setup Sims to be used remotely from home so teachers can write reports etc. If so how have you done it. Thanks in advance daz666
CAM Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 We use SIMS Learning Gateway but don't use it if you have a lot of comment fields on a marksheet. Made our marksheets run very very slow to the point they barely work.
Jamman960 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 We looked at the SLG route but decided to setup a terminal server instead - it worked out much cheaper even though we had to buy a new server
Max_Power Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 We use SLG and a TS - although TS is reserved for senior staff who remote in to complete timetable queries etc. If you intend to rollout the reports to parents via electonic form, SLG isnt that expensive because it will allow both staff to do the reports and then parents to see them as well as other information. Although staff do find it a little more difficult to complete reports through a web browser than in the SIMS application.
vikpaw Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Logmein access to the person's regular desktop. saves a lot of hassle. reserved for VIPs only. Have previously used vpn, and then remote desktop.
FragglePete Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 We use RemoteApps here. Got the gateway server and the app server running as VMs using XenServer. Works a treat, cover supervisor can do cover on Sims directly at home while eating her cornflakes as teachers call her in the morning. Works with the free certs from ipSCA. Pete
