We're running a XenServer 5.6 FP1 and I've not had any problems with it till now. I created a VM and was trying to install Windows on it, but had to blow it away and start again. I rebooted the VM and now I just cannot view the VM in the XenCenter console window! I just see a blank window:

Any ideas what could be causing this? I've installed XenCenter on 3 different PCs/Servers (XP, 7 and 2003) and all are giving the same error. Rebooted the XenServer and the client PCs, deleted the VM and recreated from scratch, all with no luck! :(

Have you recently pooled servers? Dodgy iso? vt-x enabled? (not on stones) tried 5.6 or 5.5 to see if works? are these PC/ server similar manufacturer? each version has random problems with different pcs citrix forums good but can help more if needed

My desk PC is a custom build running Windows 7 - Doesn't work on there. I've tried from a VM running on VMware Workstation on my custom build - Doesn't work there either. Tried on a HP Ultra Slim PC and a HP Convertible Minitower - Same result. (The Ultra Slim was running 5.5) and also tried it on a HP Server (Can't remember the model number) but it doesn't work on there either. Tried different ISOs (Volume Licensing from Microsoft and Technet ISO) also tried booting from Network. vt-x is enabled on all PCs. Also haven't pooled any servers.

Does the VM still have storage? What's under the storage tab of the VM properties?

I'm pretty sure the VM has storage. It's a brand new created VM and the XenServer isn't actually running anything at the moment as I wiped away any older VMs we had on it for testing. If worst comes to worst, I can just rebuild the XenServer from scratch but I'd rather fix the problem in case the issue reappears when there are VMs in use.

I've had a look at the host console on it does say the VM is running. So it seems there isn't a problem with the VM but with XenCenter.

Try this,

1. Shut down XenCenter.

2. Click Start->Run

3. Type: %APPDATA%\CITRIX

4. Delete any folder pertaining to XenCenter

5. Re-open XenCenter

I have had a similar issue before.

Wow thanks for that fix - I've always had this problem on my Win7 PC, usaly I just boot into a Virtual Box VM and do all XenCentre stuff from there :)

For some reason XenCenter likes to occasionally corrupt its AppData leading to problems like this. Another one to look out for is if you ever have a problem with memory/CPU etc utilisation not showing correctly (or at all) in XenCeter that's usually down to time sync differences between the physical hosts and the XenCenter client PC.
