BBC News - Burger ban begins at Forest Green Rovers football club

 

A spokeswoman for the Vegetarian Society said: "A diet lower in meat, particularly red meat, and higher in plant-based food is lower in fat, higher in fibre and higher in trace minerals.

 

"Anything the British population as a whole can do to reduce their reliance on meat has got to be positive."

Surely we cannot have it any more, otherwise why would the minority get to rule over the majority?

 

Indeed, the "Freedom of choice" here, is to not eat at the ground, and to get something in MaccyD's on the way there!

 

Way to go, FGR, look at your club and decide which revenue stream you'd like to cut off.

 

Moronic madness, in my opinion......and that has nothing to do with vegetarianism, it's to do with cold hard facts. Football supporters, in the main, would like a burger, hot dog or meat pie at half time. They certainly don't want to be preached to.

Thats a whole other kettle of fish! But surely we should be allowed to choose what we eat, the same as we can choose what sports we like to watch or take part in, what clothes we like to wear, i shouldnt be told you must not eat meat because i dont.

 

Please dont think i am pushing my views on anyone or saying people cant have an opionion or a belief (exactly the opposite in fact i support peoples right to choose and believe what they want to believe!) but i shouldnt have other peoples views/likes/dislikes forced upon me.

Its his club so he can do as he wishes. Me? I'd love more places to do this. Burgers and junk like that are horrible food really, I'd much prefer the caterers to put some effort in and make a nice menu using different flavours.

Same thing can be said about places selling no veggie options... ie. 'meat eaters pushing their choice on others'. It isn't about 'pushing' anything, its about 'I own this football club, this is what we're going to do'. Same with any business.

 

Why can't it be a veggie club? You get veggie restaurants, veggie pubs etc...?

Random fact: I know a veggie, he also does martial arts and various other health improving activities. He's also the sickest person I know.

Huh? It is totally the same! Try going to KFC and seeing what is veggie. Nothing is.

 

Most football clubs offer red meat, just this one doesn't. They still offer chicken and fish, just not red meat. Really not seeing how it is in any way different?

As for exciting/varied menus....have you ever seen the catering vans at footie grounds...pre prepared burgers and dogs from cans still manages to confound most 'chefs'

because you go to a food pub primaraliy to eat you go to a football match to watch football, its a choice think if you want a buger go to mcdonalds etc if you want a nut cutlet go to a vegie place but with football you go because you support that team. I dont have a problem with eating veggie my sister and her husband/family are all vegie and was there over christmas but i do like having the option and a sporting event where i couldnt have a burger or a hot dog would probably make me stay at home

KFC dont offer it because of demand. Its a chicken resturant.... if you're vegetarian, you're kinda going against your principals getting within 20 yards. A rather one sided resturant to pick for your argument.

People still eat socially, so they go with their mates to eat. Sometimes this involves people ending up in KFC. Most burger places now offer veggie options, but they were always 'meat restaurants'...

 

You are missing the point. Most places offer meat options, but not all. So what's wrong with 1 single football club not offering them?

 

It isn't your club, or the fans club, it belongs to that bloke and as such he can do what he wants with it.

These are simply polls as to what people will eat when they go out for a meal...........NOT what they like to eat at a football match.

 

They can dress it up as much as they wish, but I'm pretty certain that they will find the profits from the catering side will fall quite rapidly. I await proof that I am wrong in this assumption!

When you stand on a freezing terrace you want a nice warm burger to bite into. Bigger the better, I'll take the double cheese and bacon burger any day over a salad at speedway.
