RabbieBurns Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 upgraded all my virtual 2008r2 servers and a win7 testbed vm today.. took about an hour on each of them.. Ive not had the stones to upgrage the host yet but will wait a week and do that.. How does everyone plan to roll this out to laptops? Will WSUS handle it OK over wireless (90% of our machines are laptops) Or should I just wait till we reimage them (only just reimaged them over the summer (december) so will probably be another 6 mothhs+ till they get a reimage)

Mr.Ben Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) I want it now! - I can see it in Technet and the OEM website (neither of which I can get to) and I can't find the official download - anyone know what time it will be released? Edited February 22, 2011 by Mr.Ben
SYNACK Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I want it now! - I can see it but can't find the official download - anyone know what time it will be released? Its under MVLS now, downloaded it yesterday. It's great, only 6 updates to install afterwards. 1
Mr.Ben Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) I can see the Full editions with SP1 in MVLS, but am I missing the stand alone update? EDIT: Ignore me - I've found it now! Edited February 22, 2011 by Mr.Ben
Mr.Ben Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Thanks Synack, I'm sure it wasn't there when I was looking for it this morning! Has anyone noticed any change to GPO's? - there do not seem to be any.
zag Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) upgraded all my virtual 2008r2 servers and a win7 testbed vm today.. took about an hour on each of them.. Ive not had the stones to upgrage the host yet but will wait a week and do that.. Just completed my first 2 Hyper-V upgrades and it worked ok. Don't forget to upgrade the Integration disk on each of the servers once its done though. This will mean you can use dynamic memory which is a very cool new feature. Edited February 22, 2011 by zag
Gatt Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Any idea when this will show up in WSUS/SCCM? no sign of it so far...
Trapper Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Getting mine via Technet - the DVD iso version. Windows Update is stalling, so I'm guessing its on there now and being hammered. For interest the WGA plugin crashes the release candidate of IE 9, which is why I didn't get it from the public site. When did this go live on Technet? I must have missed it. Even worse I need to re-download and burn my DVDs again now!

Tunster Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Any idea when this will show up in WSUS/SCCM? no sign of it so far... I'm getting the same thing and it isn't appearing on the WSUS Catalog either. I guess WSUS will be the last to see the updates when it sees Windows Update for consumers and the direct links start to calm down. Shame you can't inject the update from the DVD or EXE files directly into WSUS. We're going to keep back with updating until we've tested our student management system with it and all our 2008 R2s are fully updated.
Cools Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Microsoft seem to have slipped this in quietly, Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. Not an automatic update yet but its in the windows update section.. i saw it on mine to day ..
Cools Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 the wun7-2k8r2 SP1 looks to be installable on to Hyper V R2 Server as well..

chazzy2501 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I wan't to add this to my wsus ahead of time I looked in the catalog and only see the Release Candidate. Am I doing something wrong?
Arthur Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 There are some instructions on page 15 of the deployment guide (see post #36) which describe how to manually import SP1 into WSUS. Have you already tried this?
Tunster Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 There are some instructions on page 15 of the deployment guide (see post #36) which describe how to manually import SP1 into WSUS. Have you already tried this? I've personally tried this and SP1 isn't listed yet (not tried it this afternoon). I guess it's only so much time until it will appear after the update servers have calmed down. You can imagine thousands of WSUS servers all round the world trying to download it at the same time.
Mr.Ben Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Seems Ok - I've update both of my Hyper-V machines and the Six VM's that sit on top of them!. No problems so far!
Arthur Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 You can imagine thousands of WSUS servers all round the world trying to download it at the same time. Shouldn't be much of a problem for Akamai's 61,000+ servers.
chazzy2501 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 This could be just me but I've updated 2 laptops to sp1 and I've noticed that UAC has been turned back on. I'm looking into it more as it causes SIMS update issues.

I was told that it wouldn't work with UAC on. I have granted permission using the SIMSPERM cmd. (I'd better look into it) I like UAC but I know I'm in the minority.
mrbios Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 haha that damn file name, i've run it with the projector on infront of a bunch of kids before and they all laughed at what i was typing
