Sirbendy Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I've been tasked with sourcing an external IP camera to be mounted outside on the building site where our 6th form is being built. Needs: Decent Image Weatherproof Mountable to..say an existing camera pole/light pole or similar Ability to FTP images out on a schedule preferably, say one every few seconds or whatever (unless anyone can give me ideas on that?) Either wifi or LAN, or both should be fine - there will be a cab situated in the portacabins. Wifi may be a useful extra. PoE may be advantageous from a cabling view. Static view is fine, preferably a decent angle of view I've looked at Axis - expensive. Anyone got any suggestions? It's not really my field of expertise.
mb2k01 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) I have a Mobotix M24 mounted on a pole outside with no shelter - has taken a battering of wind, rain and snow and been pretty reliable. Approx 180 degree view. I'm using it PoE, with a Netgear directional wireless bridge which can sometimes interfere with other kit around it, but the camera itself is pretty good. All together the kit and installation came to approx £2k. I have attached an image from the cam which is approx 80% quality Edited January 27, 2011 by mb2k01

Best image quality on the market and the cameras are extremely robust. Depends on your budget I suppose. Give my old company, Network Webcams, a ring - 0151 633 2111, tell them you're ringing from a school and they should give you a decent discount. They do free next day delivery, and you can try for 14 days and they'll give you a refund if you're not happy! Very nice company!

skell Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 We use AXIS P3343's here. We have 3 of them. HD recording, weather proof, work at night, PoE. However they are EXPENSIVE. £700 a pop if I recall...
use-IP Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 If your budget won't stretch to Axis or Mobotix then maybe take a look at the ACTi ACM-1231 or the Vivotek IP8332. Both are outdoor/weatherproof, built-in infra-red LEDs and POE enabled.
PaulKonec Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Great thing about Mobotix M12 day/night external camera mentioned above is that it has fantastic resolution of 3.1 megapixel, most IP cameras are around 0.4 megapixel equivilent. Also has onboard SDHD slot so you can record internally upto 32GB, more than enough for the type of recording you want. Have a look at a link to one outside our office (Net-ctrl). camera.net-ctrl.com

Im looking for an external IP camera but with Wireless interface. Both ACTi ACM-1231 and Vivotek IP8332 that use-IP suggested meet my needs and budget but i cant find anything with the same specifications/price range that supports Wireless connection. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

localzuk Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 If you want truly budget gear, but excellent image quality - try a Grandstream camera. I put a GXV3611_HD in my last school as a quick and easy camera for viewing the entrance gate from the reception desk. Was cheap as chips, super easy to set up etc... They do external dome cameras too, and normal type IP CCTV models, which you can then mount in a standard external camera housing. Grandstream Networks, Inc :: IP Video Surveillance Their standard model, the GXV3601 costs about £140, and a housing would cost anything between £10 and £150 etc...

I need a good quality camera to project the view from my hotel and i cant use ethernet cable due to the distance of the spot. I do have a good WiFi reception tho and i want o use that, I previously had a Foscam IP camera but the resolution was VGA and i wasnt satisfied.

Finding an external IP CCTV camera with wifi is going to be tough to be honest - hardly anyone makes them. D-Link make a camera which could be mounted in an external body which is wireless, but the antennas would be an issue. Wifi IP CCTV is inherently insecure, as messing up a wifi signal takes about 2 minutes work.
