Any I.T Companies To Help Virtualise Our Servers?

I am thinking of virtualising our servers and would like some outside advice and possibly evcen assistance in doing this. Does anyone have any companies they have either used to do this or know they offer this service and can reccommend them?

Its easy, took me less than a day to virtualize 6 servers on hyper-v.

 

I just watched these videos and was up and running in no time.

Hyper V is straightforward - you need right hardware - enable virtualistion in bios - is cheap if you have MS schools agreement - setup server 2008 datacenter edition which will allow unlimited virtual servers with no extra cost.

Not tried other solutions.

Are you just setting up virtual servers or are you doing it with clustering, CSVs, Live Migration etc? Takes a bit more planning to get the network configuration correct once you enable those features...

We use a bit of everything here, vmware, hyper-v and citrix XenServer....

 

If you have cost constraints go for Citrix Xenserver - free for the basic version.. Needs a server with a CPU capable of Virtulisation and very easy to use. 1 Management interface - add the server and ISO share and away you go.

 

VMWare - same as Cirtix - more expensive but will run on anything - have to check features for certain costs..

 

Hyper-V - Got a couple of 2008 servers up now and just doing some testing..

 

Im based in Liverpool and am quite happy to help out by the way..

I'm just doing the test-bed-suck-it-and-see thing here, myself, school won't pay for training and don't realise that I don't have a an RJ45 plug on my finger to learn things with, a la R2D2.

 

Installed Hyper-V on 2008, but I didn't relaise the Datacentre Edition was more suitable so thanks for that, whoever said that, I'll start again with that Edition. I've got ESXi running on my test-host at this time, and it seems a bit easier to deal with.

 

Botttom line is the learning curve is not as steep as I thought it would be, although I expect it to steepen the more I get into it.

 

I guess this is what's meant by 'Learning Through Play'.
