stu1892 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Morning all. Need some ideas! We've had 2 work experience students in this week. We've had them salvaging parts, testing and sorting a load of stock for the last 3 days. We're now out of ideas of what they can do. We've got very little on, that they could get involved in. Any ideas welcome!
tech_guy Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Routine maintenance - checking / cleaning / tidying computers in classrooms? Noting vandalism, etc? Always makes them feel important if you get them to design a checklist spreadsheet and then go around with it on a clipboard checking the PCs 1
stu1892 Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Ha, the latter suggestion is what an employed technician already does! Cheers
dwhyte85 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Tea run, sainsburys run etc... kidding Re-inventory some rooms? 1
tech_guy Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Designing helpful information posters to go up in the IT rooms?
stu1892 Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Think we're going to get them to knock up some e-safety posters. I think all the cleaning that can be done, has been unfortunately. Cheers!
rad Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Making up Patch leads, always a fun job, definately time consuming. I'd also add printer maintenance, find an old printer, take it apart and then put it back together, never easy. The poster one is always a good thing, maybe help in an ICT lesson, will create more confidence assisting people. 1
firefox_2006 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Any I.T. clubs being run? get them to assist maybe in IT lessons? "wet playtimes" get them to setup dvd in hall/theatre...any boring mundane job that a trained monkey could do...we once had a student who liked to tamper/hack the computers so we got him to test some of the old PC's/monitors and the bursar came down and stopped him for "health and safety reasons" something to bear in mind I suppose.
mdrabble Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 could always get them to go round and audit hardware..... 1

Is your bursar your H and S person as well?
dwhyte85 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 could always get them to go round and audit hardware..... That's what I'd be doing! Painstakingly boring job
stu1892 Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Sadly a Uni student we had recently already had the job of auditting. Good to have these ideas for the next time, as no matter how much we battle it, there will be more work experience weeks...
ReverentCreature Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Asset register, adding ink and paper into printers, untangling headphones, delivering laptops to classrooms and issuing cameras.
