LiamH Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) I posted some starter tips a few pages back flakes Edit : Page 4 Edited March 15, 2011 by LiamH
Flakes Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 ok played a bit last night under the alias Dodge245, created my house and i have enjoyed what i played, quick note to all of you trying to go home from spawn, get to your house and type "/home set" (without quotes) into the talkbar, you will spawn there next time you die, type "/home" if you stray to far away and need to warp back. big thanks to sovietpig who helped me loads last night.
Style Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 If you want to play at work and having issues with proxy then: shove a batch file into: "Application Data\.minecraft\bin" with the following: java -Dhttp.proxyHost=YOURPROXYIP -Dhttp.proxyPort=PORT -Xmx800m -jar Minecraft.exe Makes lunch pass a lot quicker images/smilies/smile.png I had to add a https proxy switch to be able to log in to make this work (I also downloaded the .jar file to run) : java -Dhttps.proxyHost=(proxy) -Dhttps.proxyPort=(port) -Dhttp.proxyHost=(proxy) -Dhttp.proxyPort=(port) -jar minecraft.jar You can stick the batch file anywhere but sometimes you won't have the java exe in your path variable which is usually due to only having the 64 bit of java installed on a x64 machine and not also having the 32 bit version installed. It will either be %windir%\System32\java.exe or %windir%\SYSWOW64\java.exe so make sure you check that. I have a server set up for the students with my after school games club now, they love it. I have strict rules for not destroying other people's work and most of them are happy to use communal chests and help keep them supplied.

Does each student have to have their own account or do you have a few accounts for the school?
Style Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Each student needs to have their own purchased account unfortunately but quite a number of students do. It would be nice if I could get a bit of a budget to buy 5 accounts or so but I don't expect that will happen in the near future. I control the shortcut by using a white list, a student needs to come to me to show that they own the game (by logging into the site) otherwise they don't have access.
Flakes Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Just to say tryed to join last night and it appears that the server is out of date, so wont allow connections from new clients
ZeroHour Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Just to say tryed to join last night and it appears that the server is out of date, so wont allow connections from new clients Sadly I am waiting for an update to craftbukit which handles our plugins which will allow the server to work. Hopefully they will release soon, will post when they do.
Sephiroth Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Does anyone still have version 1.3 for Windows, as I wasn't thinking properly last night and blindly agreed to update to 1.4. If so, could you please let me have a copy... Thanks
pshuttle Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Think I might have to try this now. However, it would be nice to fix up the Edugeek server so I can take part in the fun?

TechMonkey Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 From elsewhere: If you are running in windows and want to try 1.4 while keeping 1.3 for SMP then use the batch file I described earlier. set appdata={folder you want 1.4 to go in} Minecraft.exe I have a few of these set up for running builds with different mods. The Minecraft exe also accepts arguments for logging on and connecting to servers automatically, so you can set up a .bat file to connect straight in. It will still ask to update though. Minecraft {uername} {password} {server:port} So reversing that you should be able to get the 1.3 version and have a shortcut tor that to play on the server and a 1.4 version to play at home.
pshuttle Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I am hoping bukit gets updated very soon. Brilliant! I have parted with my cash and bought the game.
TechMonkey Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I'm going to dive in this weekend too. Was going to put off until after some projects but they have turned into long term ones & I've waited long enough! Just need to remember where I put my monies!
ZeroHour Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Servers now running 1.4, a few plugins still need updating but the important ones are there. Enjoy.
MrEprise Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Just to say tryed to join last night and it appears that the server is out of date, so wont allow connections from new clients That'll be why I was mostly on my own last couple of days, with exception of Irazmus popping in and out every now and again!
ZeroHour Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Just as a FYI all, remember we have a TS/Steam/Xfire groups to help meet up in the game: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gaming/26824-steam-edugeek-group.html http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gaming/1412-xfire-messenger-add-your-alias-here.html http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gaming/53754-edugeek-teamspeak-3-server.html
pshuttle Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Was on the server last night. First time I have ever played survival and it was great fun. Met a few edugeeks online too. Some people have created some fantastic buildings and mines. I built what can be described as nothing but a wooden shack to keep out the monsters. Great fun!
TechMonkey Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Ohhh just become an addict so I'll try and pop on this week.
LiamH Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Been playing around on my own server zerohour, can highly recommend some mods for bukkit. mywarp - warp commands essentials + permissions which i think you already have falsebook - adds lots of content and worth it for the bridges / gates / minecart boosts worldedit - very handy if you ever want to just create something impressive. mcmmo - not updated when i checked the other night, but when it is it working you basically "level up" skills like mining, digging and felling to gain special ability's eekrunes / runecraft - not updated when i checked. Allows you to build runes with blocks to create teleporter pads, hidden doorways, day/night control and tons more. timeshift - allows you to lock the time of day
bushby Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 was on last night for the first time very impressed by some of the ceations found a nice cave system now its my home getting strait on when i get home
pshuttle Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Is the edugeek minecraft server working correctly? I was on last night and played for a few day/night cycles but no monsters appeared during the night. Also no CLI commands seemed to work? Has anybody else noticed this or is it just me? Pete
