CAM Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 So...how is the world after I started that massive forest fire last night? Using a tree to pour hot molten lava on the mobs below wasn't the best idea of mine (though seeing every tree on fire for as far as I could see was quite pretty).

They didnt stop before I went to bed and a mate says its still burning now lol. We have made a trap for you now to prevent this issue
LiamH Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 the wood will burn indefinitely needs chopping down. I griefed a friend on my server who "accidentally" set my nice wooden house on fire. I know he logged off in his house so I replaced the floor with landmines.. (TNT with a pressure plate ontop) Oh the giggles I had.

LiamH Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 was the trap a deep hole in sand that led to lava? because I fell down one of those, managed to avoid the lava but had to dig my way out of stone with no tools or torches
Arcath Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Edugeek Tower is looking pretty good, there is a lot of fire, you can travel far enough to have normal trees. We should use buckets to move the ocean up and flood the forest.

LiamH Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 So how does one go about playing minecraft on the edugeek server? open minecraft (beta not classic) and log in, select multiplayer and type in "minecraft.edugeek.net" best way to deal with the fire is cutting down the burning logs, might take a while though! I moved out to sea to get a bit of space, i'm on an island past the sandcastle in the middle of the water, if you wonder that way be careful of the canals

The *main* tower I am making is going to go straight down, pretty style rather then the mine shaft which is a hodge and I will be running a nice tunnel to the docks if you want to think about it for your plans. I think I best start backups now Has anyone used a map editor?
LiamH Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I have used MCEdit before Zerohour, wasn't very intuitive though. Not sure about the others, Omen seems quite popular but I believe that is only for classic.

LiamH Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Basic newbie guide time! First thing's first if you spawn and its night time, get yourself in some shelter. You can do this by digging a hole and blocking the entrance or "borrowing" someone else's hole , the spawn point is very close to ZeroHour's tower so that's a good place to start. You will need wood first, so find a tree (plenty of burning tree's near spawn...) and hold down the left mouse button to hack away, you should get 1 item of wood, keep doing that until you get ~12 bits of wood. Now you can make some basic tool's, Open your inventory screen (I) and place the wood on the crafting grid like this: Wood = x [ ][ ] [ ][x] = [y] This should give you wooden planks (y) you can convert all of your wood into planks. next you need a crafting table, back on the inventory screen place wooden planks in the craft box like so: To pick up half a stack, right click it. once a stack is picked up you can place 1 unit by right clicking, or the whole stack with a left click. [x][x] [x][x] = [y] This will give you a craft table, place this in your quickbar (the bottom slots in the inventory screen) and exit the inventory. You can now place the crafting table on the ground by selecting it and right clicking where you want to place it. Once you do that you can right click on the craft table to bring up a bigger crafting grid. So lets make some sticks. This can be done on the craft table or in your inventory and looks like this: x= Wooden planks [ ] [x] [ ] [x] = [y] you will want to convert roughly half of your planks into sticks. Now to make a wooden pickaxe, use the craft table and make this: x=Wooden planks z= Sticks [x][x][x] [ ][z][ ] [ ][z][ ] = [y] This will give you a wooden pickaxe that you can use to mine coal and stone. CHR1S Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 So I spent ages last night digging a hole (seemingly just because I could) put a furnace in, made a door and some lights. I built a moat around it made it look nice, then died and now I cant find the bugger! D'oh!!
