cPanel - Free?

Evening Guys,

 

I'm not sure how many of you work in schools that let their kids mess about with LAMP servers and setting up their own space for hosting etc, but in case you do cPanel offer their Control Panel software for $30 (admin costs) to non-profit/educational establishments.

 

Having used cPanel through Edutech Hosting I love it - it's very good. I bet most people out there have used it at all.

The same offer applies to UK.

 

The problem is that it won't work on a NAT (well it wouldn't when I did this some years ago) set up even if you have a public IP natted because eth0 won't *have* this IP.

I had a school whom asked me about this at one point, and rather then doing it internally i just set them up 30 accounts and they had cPanel. Web Space does have to be monitored highly though incase any illegal content gets uploaded.

 

Good to see cPanel offering that service though, would come in quite handy as you say. But i think Kim is right i don't believe it works on a NAT

We've had the cPanel educational thing for around 5 or 6 years now and love it's flexibility.

 

Support is similar to enterprise level support and e-mail queries are monitored 24/7 and a response is generally received within 20 mins.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I've spoken to them this morning and it is true that an EDU license is what schools need. LInk here:

Would it work on an internal web server - I don't want it public facing on the internet. Just for internal use.

I would imagine it would work fine with an Internal IP Address. It would just be like assigning a Static External IP or/ Pool of Statc External IP's for Dedicated IP's. So my answer would be yes it would work using an internal IP Address.

 

Guess it's worth a try anyhow, logic to me says it would be fine.
