After a new TV

Nothing like leaving it to the last minute.

 

Before the VAT goes up, I've decided to treat myself to a new TV!

 

So with hardly any time to do any research and a load of Argos vouchers I have left over from before Barclaycard altered the ammount required for redemption, I've come up with 3 options I'm considering currently.

 

1. Buy Sony KDL32EX401U 32 Inch Full HD 1080p Digital LCD TV. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

2. Buy LG 32 Inch 32LD490 Full HD 1080p Freeview HD LCD TV. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

3. Buy LG 32LF2500 32 Inch Full HD Digital LCD TV. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

 

One of the main uses will be for my PS3, which pushes me towards the Sony, where as one of the LG's has Freeview HD in it.

 

Anyone have any opinions on any of them or another suggestion to go for? The £350 mark is the top limit of what I can afford to spend at Argos, anywhere else the price will have to come down to £270.

I'd personally go with the Sony I got a samsung about 2 years ago and wishing I went with a Sony as the Samsung remote is sluggish.

I bought an LG 42" 1080p LCD earlier in the year and it's been brilliant. (Mind you ... I wish I'd waited now as it's down to £350 at Currys or Comet).

That Sony is going for £249.95 at richer sounds At the moment don't know about stock levels though

Nearest Richer Sounds is 60 miles away so with postage and vouchers puts it back into Argos' price range (so not really missing out)

I would get it from Currys - am fairly sure they do buy now pay later within 12 months with a 10% deposit

 

So if telly is 400, pay 40 £ up front, which leaves £360 to pay ( 10 monthly installments of £36 ) and jobs a good un as that will pay it within the 12 month period

 

Think when I did it, I got a £25 admin charge to pay on the last payment but then it means you can get a better telly and use the argos vouchers for other stuff

Ok, decision made I think - you've nudged me enough with everything else I've read to go for the Sony.

The vat increase is just smoke n mirrors really.. 2.5% is not worth loosing sleep over.

 

All of the distributors are stuck with loads of sets that do not have Freeview HD built in now that all of the new models have this as standard buyers will leave them on the shelves unless priced accordingly.

 

DVB-T2 is what everyone will be asking for, hence 23" Samsungs turning up in tescos for £149 if your not bothered about Freeview HD there has never been a better time to grab a bargain.

Personally I've found that the Panasonics have got the best picture. They always get Best Buys in Which.

I played only 15 quid less than that for an LG 32" about 18 months ago and it thought that was cheap :| ah well its the way technology goes i suppose

 

I'd love a 40" TV, but just haven't got the room for it atm.

 

Got the Sony in the end and very happy with it!

I've always thought the same too, but since using both fairly regularly atm I can't really notice a difference. Sonys menu system and added extras are much better tho (bbc iplayer primarily - dunno if this comes on those models ^)

Dunno - mine's a couple of years old now - but I run a W7 media box under it for streaming and access to iPlayer (TunerFreeTV). I believe some of the newer Panasonics have all the new gubbins.

 

At Xmas - was at my folks - my Dad has a Samsung that he's not happy with and I took some copies of various settings up to try and improve the picture - what a 'mare - there are so many places to change things that I reckon its impossible to set a decent picture without a full blown hardware solution!
