VPS Hosting

Hi,

 

Can anyone recommend any good, fairly low cost VPS hosting companies out there? My school is currently on a shared hosting plan with Names Co, and speed issues are forcing us to change. Obviously in an ideal world we'd love to have a dedicated physical server , but that aint' gonna happen in a million years. We have also hosted locally before, which was great when the servers weren't down (no where near 99.95% uptime promised by most hosting companies).

 

Also if you've any shared hosting suggestions too that would be just as appreciated

Stats:

We get an average of around 60-80,000 hits a month and around 10GB/month bandwidth usage.

The site is primarily for prospective students/parents but also offers school calendar functions and a letter download area.

We're using Joomla

 

the main reason for the move is purely speed issues.

Amazon are giving away micro instances for free (first year) atm: AWS Free Usage Tier

I use 2 different hosts for my VPSs - Switchlink.co.uk for cheap Linux packages, and csnewmedia.co.uk for higher quality ones (I have a windows VPS at the moment there). Carl at csnm is very good, but the prices aren't cheap.

 

The hard disk speed at switchlink isn't as good as csnm either.

 

However, it is good for most things I throw at it though!

Hmm, Switchlink looks interesting, and Amazon. I also might check out csnm's standard hosting plans too. Cheers guys

Highly recommend CS New Media they are a great firm to deal with I use a Reseller hosting plan from them and its good value and support when I've had to use it for minor problems has been speedy and helpful

I would also recommend carl at CS New Media, Okay the prices are not as cheap as some places but i'd rather pay more personally and receive the high standard of service Carl offers.

 

You also have Craig at VeloxServ who also sells cheap web hosting and his network is sound, servers i've never had an issue with and he has been there when i've needed some points on the web front.
