Startup hangs on Applying Deployed Printer Connections policy

class of windows 7 Machines and on startup they all hang on Applying Deployed Printer Connections Policy, although there is nothing in group policy for that room, under printers. Anyone seen this before or got any ideas?

It really depends how you've configured your printer policies. There may not be anything specific to that room (deploying per computer), but remember policy inheritance is enabled by default.

 

If you navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Print Management, then click Deployed Printers, you can clearly see which GPOs printers are applied to Per User and/or Per Machine.

My problem is that even though deployed printer policies have been removed from within the GPO the computer on startup is hanging at this stage.

You haven't got User Account Control on have you?

 

Additionally, have you allowed users to add printers.

 

Chances are in the background there is a window popping up saying "are you sure you want to install this printer" as it comes from a unreliable source (due to a UNC path), which needs the user to click "install printer" and then type in an admin password probably.

 

This commonly happens with Windows 7, you gotta think to any prompts it might give you if you tried to do this manually.
