Recycling toner cartridges?

Dear collective wisdom,

 

We have been trying to find a company that will collect and recycle used toner cartridges (not for remaufacture - we've been using Cartridge World and realise that they aren't great for what we need). So! Any ideas or suggestions of companies that will either collect for free or even pay us (I know, probably not gonna happen these days!) for spent toner cartridges would gratefully received.

We've moved away from recycool as we weren't getting any money back from them. They have a continually changing list of cartridges which they'll pay for, if you send back cartridges not on this current list they will make a recycling charge and you end up getting no money.

We have moved to Greentech, who seem to take back everything we use and we get paid a fair wack for them.

We've been using these people for many years now. They will pay you for some or just take the ones that they donn't pay for.

I use cartridge world and they pay us for the the cartridge's and provide us with bins to collect them in!

Most of our printing goes to the photocopiers and I believe Canon sort out the recycling. The small quantities of toner and ink cartridges go in a box in the garage with the other stuff for recycling and http://www.prmgreentech.com take it all away when the box is full.

Seems like rather a poor choice IMO. Why throw them away when so many companies will give you either money or credit towards new spending for them? It takes zero effort really.

We used to use a company at my old place (forget the name of the company now) and it was far from zero effort. They required every cartridge to be in the packaging, or wrapped in newspaper for protection and all had to be collected together and boxed up - with specific requirements on maximum size and weight of the boxes, which we had to find ourselves as they didn't provide them. Any toner without the orange plastic covers would be rejected. It often used to take my colleague the best part of a day to prepare each batch for collection, and we never really got any money back from it - certainly not enough to cover the cost of the time she spent sorting them.

 

So in that instance, as bad as it is for the environment, putting them in the bin would have made better economic sense.

 

I think you need to choose the company carefully if you are going down that route and not just assume that cash for the old toners equals free money.

Yeah, you need to choose a company carefully. We chuck all our cartridges in one box. Once its full we tape it up, call the number and get it collected. Job done. No wrapping, packaging or the like. They also send us the boxes.

 

If we have compatibles that go in, they subtract those costs from the originals and we get a balance at the end. So far we've always made money back.

I looked at them but they won't take ours. Is there certain toner that nothing can be done with it?
