ninjabeaver Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Hi all, Can anyone confirm that LP+ is down over all the UK is true and not just Norfolk? Cheers, Simon.
kmount Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Looks like someone forgot to renew the domain lpplus.net it expired yesterday... Explains why I can't get to the Northants Enable platform I suppose!
karlr Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Unless they're running other counties using domains other than LpPlus.net, then yes it will be down across the UK and beyond. In theory the domain is in grace period now so should restored very quickly when they push the "renew" button. Not sure if e-mails to OWN and other LpPlus hosted targets will be ending up in a black hole though!
Fenscape Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 (Note to faceless LP+ account manager who hasn't bothered to press the flesh with his customers since he took over from the last guy back in January... This'll be part of the quality service you wrote to us about if we parted with NCC and stayed with you, yeah? Next time, you might like to check your junk mail folder for that renewal notice rather than leave us all in the brown stuff.......) 1
pete Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Ouch, that's a pretty shameful display of incompetence.
ninjabeaver Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 (edited) I'm going to love tomorrow at work. Well done LP+. Incompetence leads the way there. Just found this. http://www.lpplusstatus.com/ Edited November 17, 2010 by ninjabeaver
Fenscape Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Those of you with county-wide contracts with LP+ might like to start checking your SLA figures at this point......
jcollings Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 And it's incidents like this that make me so pleased we left LP+
LPPLUS_Support Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 (edited) hi On the contrary to what has been stated on this page about the domain name being expired we can assure you that this is not the reason for LPPLUS being down (please see attached screenshot which shows expiry is in Nov 2011 ) We are currently experiencing issues due a dispute with our domain registrars and their contracted online payment authority. We are in the processes of resolving this and hope to have the service back up and running as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience. Sandip Mehta LP+ Limited Edited November 17, 2010 by LPPLUS_Support
GrumbleDook Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 The problem is actually with Interservers ... they are not responding to the phone or email and even Internic cannot get through. I've had a copy of the invoices for the domain just sent through to me so LP+ coughed up the cash, but the folk who should have done the work obviously haven't. LP+ have now spoken with Internic and ENOM (interservers was one of their largest resellers in the UK) and have had to cough up the cash again. The TAGS are being moved over to ENOM since Interservers decided bugger up the DNS and it will take a bit of time for this to cascade / take effect. No-one at LP+ has cocked up in anyway. Just imagine if UK2.net decided to reset your DNS and became uncontactable ... imagine the chaos that would cause for many folk.
LPPLUS_Support Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Dear All All LPPLUS services have now been restored. Thank you for your all patience ands support during this downtime. Apologies inconveniences caused due to this outage Regards Sandip Mehta LP+ Limited

Sandip Mehta LP+ Limited Hi, It was renewed when you posted your screenshot but it most certainly was not when I posted. - I can see it has also now been renewed for a further year beyond your screenshot. Let's not tell lies. Tony's answer I can believe.

GrumbleDook Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 @Kim Sandip isn't lying. They paid the money and so did their part of getting it registered. In the same way we didn't blame Chris when EG was down due to cock ups with Farcehosts, it us seriously unfair to blame LP+ if a contracted company screws up even after LP+ have coughed up cash (internic's annual renewal scheme, paid each year was in effect). The domain now comes up as renewed on Whois in places other than where Sandip showed because they got eNOM to do a forced grab if the TAGs (and LP+ had to cough up more cash, effectively having to pay twice).
kmount Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Hi Tony, I didn't say they didn't pay their money I merely showed that the domain DID expire contrary to what Sandip said to disprove what I said. We all know registrars are useless at best and I wasn't making a dig at lpplus themselves just pointing out that the domain being expired would explain why dns lookups failed everywhere.
GrumbleDook Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 @kim The problem is you said Let's not tell lies. There is a dispute between Internic and Interservers now about what happened ... as far as Internic are concerned it was renewed and had not expired. That is what they tell LP+ on the invoice that comes through with notification that the money has been paid. The fact the the registrar has been a muppet is obvious to see. Unfortunately a few others *have* had a dig at LP+, calling them incompetent and such, without trying to find the complete picture. Whilst Sandip and team are too professional to take people to task about this I will happily call people to apologise. I am sure LP+ are looking into the SLA and how this has impacted schools, but their main concern last night was to get the problem sorted. So, registrar makes a cock-up, VLE provider is screwed over due to it and works late to get it fixed for this morning. And for those who might still be having issues, flush your DNS or ask your ISP to flush the domain from theirs to help propagate it. 1
kmount Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) I only said that because of On the contrary to what has been stated on this page about the domain name being expired we can assure you that this is not the reason for LPPLUS being down (please see attached screenshot which shows expiry is in Nov 2011 ) Which implied that I lied. Anyway, it's fixed and it has nothing to do with me other than showing what evidence was available at the time so I'll mosey on EDIT: FWIW I can completely believe registrar's are the root cause of this issue and it's nothing personal towards LP+ I was only showing the evidence of what could be causing the outage at the time. LPPLUS_Support Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Hi Kim Our response was not meant to imply that any individual or yourself had lied. The intention was to assure our clients that the domain had not expired and allay any fears the information would have cause to our existing clients. The screenshots we have taken are from whois.net directly and at the time of the s/s we had not managed to update/transfer the domain yet. The network solutions site had even more out of dated information and therefore from which you had obtained your information. The infromation that should show after we transfered and repaid for the domainis in the attached screenshots. However I would like to apologise that our repsonse caused offence specailly to someone like you who has previously been a very supportive and fantastic LP+ customer. We also understand that the response you had provided was meant to help the users of this forum and also to support us in resolving the issue. Regards Sandip Mehta LP+ Limited 1
d-taylor Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 We had no idea this had gone down at all until we got a very polite email the next day from LP+ explaining there had been some unexpected downtime in the evening. I understand some people from LP+ worked late on this which meant that the service was up and running for the next school day, which for us is the important thing (the downtime did not disrupt teaching and learning.) LP+ Support are always quick and efficient when we log a problem, and the fact they got this fixed before the next school day reflects this efficency for me. 1
oxide54 Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 So, registrar makes a cock-up, VLE provider is screwed over due to it and works late to get it fixed for this morning. To be honest, I was half considering that the next 20 times a member says that they have been left in the lurch by someone else and they moan about it I was going to call the incompetent and rattle on ... but thought what is the point ...
