oxide54 Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 (edited) Has anyone tried googles new instant preview? This is some filler text so that the problematic word does not still appear in the text preview of this thread in order to prevent overzelious LA filters from blocking entire pages of the site because of it change your search mode to safe filter off and search for the word porn, and then click on the magnifying glass on the result, works inside school google is now completely blocked inside out school until we can block the instant preview Edited November 15, 2010 by SYNACK Edited title to prevent the index pages from being blocked by overzealous LA filtering solutions 1

It is enforced safe search at our place. What filtering software do you use?
AngryTechnician Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 RM SmartCache can't do it, but on the other hand, I'm pretty sure the dynamic content filter will kick in just by searching for the word 'porn' and block the results page.
oxide54 Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 we are using LA provided filtering, some cisco appliance i have limited control over. only requesting specific domains urls to block. we have isa in house which i use to block stuff locally based on AD group membership
Hightower Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 In our LA Google.co.uk is forced to safe search, but not .com - we're whitelist though so block everything but .co.uk
tom_newton Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Argh. Poor quality filtering that can't force safesearch. I've been in meetings all day (yuk) but nile_c has been looking at preview... it *might* be blockable.. i'll ask im.
oxide54 Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 i'm installing TMG as were licensed 4 it, it just was later in my upgrade plan. apparently quite easy to enforce safe search as it has built in function for it.
actech Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I used a blacklist filter with *safe*off* and that seems to work. I know it may cause problems occasionally with other searches but prefer that to the alternative.
AngryTechnician Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Wait, my mistake - if you try and set SafeSearch to off in Google's settings, the SmartCache blocks the request to set the cookie. Not sure if it would be possible to set the cookie some other way, but it does at least make it quite difficult.
glennda Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 have blocked using dansguardian by forcing google into safe mode

There will be a new Guardian category for this tomorrow underneath the 'Search engines' group. 1

This has resulted in kids accessing porn - needless to say it has been banned!

This has resulted in kids accessing porn - needless to say it has been banned! We've had similar issues, which have lead to us removing our exception from the LEA blocklists so it is now blocked. We use Bing instead for image searching.

powdarrmonkey Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Got to admit, the title threw me last night - thought Google were now branching out into the ol' pr0n industry!! They are, but it's still in beta. note, before anyone accuses me of libel: this is probably untrue and I do not assert it in any way.
Duke5A Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 SSL https://www.google.com should be an interesting one in the future For now it doesn't look like the site preview feature is supported under their SSL search. Just wanted to say thanks to Oxide... I immediately checked this out when I got to work this morning, and the maintainers of our proxy service already seem to be on top of this. Thanks for the heads up though!
