_Bat_ Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Anyone got any recommendations? I am looking to get a B&W laser printer for home because I am sick of the cost of cartridges and regularity of them running out for my current epson inkjet printer. I know this question has been asked before, but times are changing quickly and I thought i'd get the most up to date answers lol. Thanks
Ric_ Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 laserjet 5mp is what i have... a 4000-series can be picked up cheap second hand too.
SimpleSi Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I think any cheap laser (HP,Brother, Samsung) are about as good as any other - I'd go for the one that cheapest to maintain - ask your local cartridge refilling people - ours recommended the HP1010 last time I asked (a year ago) regards Simon
localzuk Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 If you can pick one up, a HP LJ 5 - they are dirt cheap to maintain.
_Bat_ Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 I forgot to mention, it needs to come network ready as it'll be quite a distance from our server and I hate external wireless print servers due to previous experience. I think that rules out all the above printers if I looked correctly. Sorry. I have been looking at the "SAMSUNG ML-2571N MONO LASER" which seems to be alright. It's one of the cheapest I could find that is network ready.
localzuk Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Nope, you can get a HP LJ 5N which has a built in JetDirect card.
tosca925 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Go for a Brother or a HP, personally i would steer clear fromt he Samsung (purely because i have not been impressed with the two that our office girls share)
SimpleSi Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 home? distance from server? what size house do you live in? regards Simon
webman Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 The IT might be in a separate wing to the living and sleeping quarters Unless.... he lives at the school!
john Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I use Samsungs here, best bits of kit ever for the price
kylewilliamson Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Try the 1022N - its the cheapest (afaik) network ready HP Laserjet. Kyle
_Bat_ Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 home? distance from server? what size house do you live in? regards Simon Lol. Quite a large one, we have three floors, which is why I went wireless.
webman Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Wouldn't have taken long to run Cat5e/6 to every room
_Bat_ Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 Unless.... he lives at the school! Good idea, as long as I don't have to sleep in the server room, I'm surprised I manage to cope with this noise all day let alone trying to sleep through it lol.
webman Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Don't you find the fan noise theraputic and relaxing?
_Bat_ Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 Don't you find the fan noise theraputic and relaxing? I haven't been in ICT long enough to say that I do. Give it a couple more years and ask me again
SpuffMonkey Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 You could just get a refurb from somewhere like http://www.speedie.co.uk/acatalog/Laser_Printer.html I picked up a HP4 from there for about £30 years ago and its still churning out - though I have just indulged in a 2600N for colour - and pretty good it is too...
