localzuk Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I am currently in a bit of a quandry as I want to buy some of the mentioned model switches. However from what I've read they are 12.8" deep. Does anyone have one of these switches which can confirm how much cabinet depth is needed to have one mounted and cabled in (including power lead) as I suspect our wall mount comms cabinets are too small?
plexer Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 A lot I have several of these installed and the last one I did I had to leave the door of the cabinet off as I couldn't close it. Luckily it is in a secured cupbaord. Ben
localzuk Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 Yeah, from what I can see I will need to replace 3 of our wall mount cabinets as they are only 15.8" deep which doesn't leave much wiggle room if we do get the units in the rack. And we can't leave doors off as the cabinets are in class rooms Sigh, they don't cost that much but it is a hassle!!
Ric_ Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I have just had to change a load too The 2626 is equally deep! I did manage to get some cheap and cheerful cabinets from Oliis which did the job.
localzuk Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 The ones I'm eyeing up are Prism ones at around £120 each, which isn't too bad really. And they are relatively straight forward to mount so it shouldn't be too much hassle. It's either that or buy shorter switches!

DMcCoy Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I started with the 4108 being too deep, then discovered that the 2648 was too deep, and then the 2848s. I now get the cabinet replaced with a 500mm (IIRC) deep cabinet that hinges from the back corner. Its still a tight fit with the power cord!

What if I use low profile power cables? 500 is with low profile power cables and the fibre and cat5 cables squashed in at the front. You can try it, but I think you'll find it sticks out still. Don't forget its fibre patch + switch + power for depth! Damn console cable is on the back too, so you can forget about using that (I swing my cabs open to use it in emergencies)
john Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Have you thought of Right angled power connectors and Serial Leads? They will help reduce the depth neded? Oh yeah, you could just switch to another make instead if HP are that deep and harsh.

I want to use HP but if the switches are going to be a problem, size wise and need lots of cabinet replacements then I am thinking it isn't worth it and I'll just end up getting DLink ones again.
plexer Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Mine are squashed in with right angled power leads and I've been looking for some right angle adapters for the console leads so I can leave them in. I had enormous trouble with a 2626-pwr and I couldn't work out why it wouldn't fit after I installed the console cable and it was because it was hitting the back. Ben
plexer Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I've just been and measured the cab in music which is a new one with 2650 installed and it is 500mm deep as measure frmo the outside. The 2650 fits with loads of room at the front so no squashed cables and it also has the console port fitted. Ben

Thats the thing, I'm currently using Dlinks (which are aging) and my current choices are Dlink xStack stuff or HP Procurve stuff. I'd much prefer the HP so I may just bite the bullet and splash out on a new set of cabinets. The switches are gonna be in them for at least 5 years so it isn't that big an expense.
