I am suprised other airlines have not grounded their A380's too. Guess that sums up other airlines commitment to safety.... Butuz
john Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Thats quite amazing hows its gone, did anyone watch a documentary a few months ago on BBC about Rolls Royce they were featuring engines used on planes and how they are made and tested and how they as part of testing blow them up, chuck stuff in them to make them explode to check they contain themselves and don't shred themselves etc was very impressive but cost millions to test!

Butuz They have now. Just heard my ex was supposed to be flying to Singapore in one courtesy of Singapore Airlines today and they have been put off with no new date/time as yet.

He was supposed to be returning via Singapore on a Qantas A380 next Friday... I have a feeling he won't be spending a week in the UK then As I understand it, not all the A380s have Rolls Royce engines which is why some of the airlines are still flying.

Others including emirates dont use the rolls royce engines. You can get the A380 with Engine Alliance engines. If those turbine blades had exited into the cabin rather than away from the cabin you would have had one A380 on the ground/sea in a million bits and everyone dead. :/ You would probably have had rapid decompression but the chances are it wouldn't have crashed. There have been many times aircraft survive.

Ben

He flew out Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong on a BA code-share flight and said that was uncomfortable.
