School changes all staff and student timetables for 2 weeks

It an absoultely disgrace that the school i am at has decided to change the timetables for both staff and student for two weeks, without even notifying the staff in the first place that this was going to happen. Now staff will have to spend there holidays replanning lessons. Student have also started petition to try and stop this however i dowt this will have any effect on getting senior managment to stop the new 2 week timetable from being implemented.

I dont quite understand this, are they changing to a two week timetable (i.e A and B weeks) or are they just changing the timetable for a two week period, if it is the latter I can't belive that they teaching unions havnt had something to say about this, if its the former it wont have a huge impact as the lessons planned will simply be used at different times, I accept that there may be a bit more work to do for the first week but it will be payed off in the second week

I guess the idea behind it is to ensure every subject has the correct amount of time.

 

For example giving Ict might need 3 lessons over a 2 week period but 4 is too many. 2 week timetable allows that finer control and flexabilty.this would prevent ict loosing or gaining too much time.

 

Btw our school had been doing a 2 week timetable for 15years.

We have gone this route. We are a spilt site schools is all got to do with positioning of staff.

AFAIK, all the senior schools around here run a 2 week timetable, and most of my friends children in other areas have the same at their schools. It is indeed due to the subject time issue according to the AH who does the timetabling at our local high school

AFAIK it's down to the kids having to do a lot of subjects and a certain amount of hours in each one. I don't think it could all be included in a one week timetable.

The OP isn't 100% clear, but I think the guy's beef is that the school will be introducing a new timetable after half term, and by the sound of it it's been done on very short notice.

 

We have a 2 week timetable here, but with the exception of a few small changes it's pretty much set in stone once we come back in September.

We have had a two week timetable since the beginning of time and it makes things so much more flexible. Lessons can be added or taken away from subjects depending on the need and the timetabled elements can be shifted about more easily.

 

I agree to give the staff and students very little time to sort is a little annoying but I feel once it has been implemented and properly organised you will realise it is in the best interest of the school. It must mean also that the school is doing well with its intake of pupils as this is usually the case for change with the timetable.

A fortnightly timetable here, too. Like has been mentioned, allows you to have an odd number of lessons a fortnight. To be honest, I'm surprised there are comprehensives that are able to run a weekly timetable.

The school have changed the timetable for two weeks temporarily, however no staff have been informed in advance they were told the same time as the students.

The whole point of the school changing the timetable temporarily is supposidley so year 11 students get some more english and maths lesson's to revise for their GCSE's. However this is still unacceptable as staff have had not been informed and have not had enough time to plan for this.

My school is also based on 1 week timetables

Within the 2 week temporary timetable both weeks will have lesson's at different times. The two timetables are completely different from each other i.e the 1st week on the monday 1st lesson will be science but on the 2nd week the 1st lesson on the monday will be Maths. After these two weeks the temporary timetable should go back to normal, however it is the fact that staff have had no notice that these temporary changes were being put in place.

We've been running a two week timetable here for yonks (well at least the 5 years I've been there). It is pretty much set in stone from September, although not all secondary schools in Portsmouth work on a 2 week schedule.

I'm an assistant timetabler and one week is enough thank you! I can't believe your timetabler has agreed to this though, it is a long and difficult job and takes up a lot of their time before and after the timetable goes live. Ours took the whole of September to properly settle down and we are still making changes now ("Hey you know my classes for my subject? I am changing one to another qualifications board even though it's October and I never told you last year..." ).
