TopBanana Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Apple iPad Named Gadget Of The Year At T3 Awards | Technology | Sky News although im not a apple lover i do agree that the ipad is a great gadet:cool:
featured_spectre Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 nope...big ipod touch is all it is...i can think of many that trump that... XBOX Kinect for example
London_Geek Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I couldn't agree more with nephilim; if anything the iPad is nothing more than an iPod Touch for the partially sighted... Just because it is a little different, I do like the look of the BlackBerry PlayBook though - having said that, the idea that you can only access 3G services by plugging it into a BlackBerry device sounds a little backwards to me...
localzuk Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 The winners seem a little odd. 'New media service of the year: Spotify'? They've been around for 2 years... No mention of Kinect, which is a fantastic technology. Best Computer? MacBook Pro. Odd as they were behind with their use of cpus until very recently, and now, they're way over the price I'd expect. (They go through phases, between 'decent value' and 'stupidly overpriced', currently in the latter). No mention of the new AppleTV, which with its movie stream rental service is a brilliant technology.
tech_guy Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Well, I've had an iPad for about three weeks now (my daughter ran off with the first one) and I can honestly say it's the best gadget I own. I don't use my laptop or desktop at home any more. Now I've started to write my own apps for it, it's something that is a joy to use and I never thought I'd ever say anything like that about an Apple product. Apple have raised the bar pretty high and their competitors will have to do something pretty damn impressive to catch up.

Next thing you will be telling us all how wonderful it is to work in education....... Thanks.
DMcCoy Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I wonder what the state of mobile devices would have been now if Psion had kept going with innovations like the 5 and netBook.
Hightower Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I've just been looking into alternatives for my brother, and the very first one I stumble upon is nearly twice the spec of the iPad for the same, if not less, dinero. Everybody! "We're living in a material world, but I would rather get more value, for my money, we're living in a material world, but apple didn't see me coming!"

K.C.Leblanc Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I wonder what the state of mobile devices would have been now if Psion had kept going with innovations like the 5 and netBook. The technology would be brilliant, but it would be so unfashionable that no one would be seen dead with one.
Hightower Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 what did you find , make model ect ? A quick google shows lists like "10 best alternatives to the iPad". Not sure how this one compares to iPad spec, but for £250-£300 it really caught my eye: Notion Ink - Adam

CESIL Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I would be more impressed with the iPad if it had, oh dunno, some sodding USB Ports and an card reader! My thoughts exactly...I loved the look and feel of the device but how do I get pictures from my SLR onto it? Oh of course it's easy...just take my laptop PC with me and load the photos onto that and then Bluetooth them to the iPad...but if I am carrying my laptop around then why do I need the iPad...hmmmmmmm...
localzuk Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 My thoughts exactly...I loved the look and feel of the device but how do I get pictures from my SLR onto it? With one of these - iPad Camera Connection Kit.
Hightower Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 With one of these - iPad Camera Connection Kit. That can't be right surely? Apple charging over the top for a device with no functionality, and then charging extra for each bit of functionality you want? I don't believe that for one second 2
London_Geek Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 If it's not bad enough that you have to pay through the nose for the "privilege" of owning one of these devices, you then have to stump up another £25.00 for the iPad Camera Connector?! Don't get me wrong, I love Apple devices, but there doesn't seem to be an end to their cheek when it comes to trying to make the customer cough up even more cash for one of their little add-ons...

How angry would you be if you had this conversation: Customer: "Hello, can I have a sausage sandwich please?" Shop Assistant: "Certainly. Would you like our standard white bread, or do you want to opt for the healthier brown bread?" Customer: "Brown please" Shop Assistant: "That's an extra 30p" Customer: "You charge extra for that?! I'll just have white please" Shop Assistant: "Butter on it?" Customer: "Uh huh" Shop Assistant: "Will cost you an extra 20p" Customer: "Then no thanks" Shop Assistant: "Sauce?" Customer: It's going to cost me isn't it?! No, I'll just have a sausage sandwich, on white bread, with no butter and no sauce" Shop Assistant: "Ok, there you go, that's £12 please" Customer: "Where's my sausages? You've just handed me an empty bun!" Shop Assistant: "Ah, sausages are extra. £7 each" Customer: "It's a sausage sandwich. It's meant to have sausages in" Shop Asisstant: "No, we just call it a sausage sandwich. You have to pay extra if you actually want sausages in it"
