Hi Guys , just finished my basic joomla template .. has been taken out of maintenance mode for showing prospective parents. ( will only be showing the front page)

Apart from the lack of content .. How is it displaying on every ones machine ?

I had to take the fluid layout off because it mucked about to much in IE . So is best viewed i think in 1280x1024

IMHO.....

First impressions were of a cluttered screen, but then after a few seconds, I began to like the presentation, and decide that it's not as cluttered as it seems. Some kind of optical illusion going on there, methinks!

Am surprised to see the home menu on the left, as well as the home menu bar. Would've thought that one OR the other would've been sufficient. (Mind you, I'm not a web designer, so take my thoughts with a pinch of salt!).

Overall, I think it has a very crisp and clear view (despite my initial reservations), gets across everything that you need it to, and looks very good.

I have just had a brief look around, and overall yeah I do like it. Your Main Logo is stretched though so might need to do a bit of tweaking there with the Image.

- Maybe make the Menu Headers Bigger to fill the space more?

Looks good. It could look better with slightly rounded corners for your side modules. Also, not keen on the red against blue background in your header - maybe introduce a middle colour to make it look easier on the eyes. Perhaps a nice shade of yellow or white even.

Just ideas. :)

Using Google Chrome in 1024x768. I know you said 1280x1024 is best, but there are still some of us out there! As I'm sure you know, it just doesn't fit. Agree it's odd having the 'Home' menu twice. Very nice, presentable colour scheme.

Other good news - I tried it on my blackberry and other than the logo being too wide, it works mobile!

Good Work....I'll echo a comment that's been made already, it looks a bit 'busy' at the top of the page maybe move the virtual learning, school newsletter, etc to the bottom of page. Just my 2pence (viewing at 1920x1200 OK)

I originally designed it for 1024x768 on the fluid setting

all perfect in Firefox .. as soon as it hit IE things was moving all over the place .. i am a bit of a css noob so couldn't go too in depth with making it work so decided on a fixed width alternative

Thanks every one for the comments !

i got to the bottom of the problem with the template . I.e 7 just didnt like it .. lol

any way i have started on a new one

Welcome to the Frontpage

Just working on the design atm , not to sure about the background .. should there be a gradient ? what do you think..

'and language college' in the title is stretched looks a lil naff and the low res photos, other than that look sweet love the design, in regards to gradient, i dont know. web trend is going towards hand drawn not clean cut web 2.0 although this would be difficult for a school website and still remain professional. One minor thing, I notice most content boxes are rounded but the main menu bar is not so I would probably copy the little bit of css used on those and apply to the main menu bar as well.

the orange is fine (i like it). just the text for 'and language college' looks stretched/squashed. and is it my eyes or is there a shadow below the line???

Agree with that!

I still think that rather than have the main menu bar, AND the main menu list on the side, you should perhaps have only one of them.....preferably the bar.

The shadow is an optical illusion, methinks!
