Dos_Box Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I have just been checking our Google stats and thought I'd have a look at what platforms people are using to browes the site, and was rather surprised to see the iPad so high, followed by Android (which I presumed was just me!). So come on, who's the closet iPad owners?
creese Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I used my Android. But rarely use the site after work where I am sat in front of 2 PCs.
tech_guy Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I've been using my iPad to access the site and everything else I look at (Twitter, FB, etc). I don't use a pc or a laptop anymore for browsing.

teejay Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Those iPad users are really lowering the tone of the place:p Use my Android sometimes, just for browsing, my typing on it is too poor to contribute using it.
tech_guy Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I use my HTC Desire to surf as well but since I got my iPad I've been using that all the time.
mounters Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I'm an iPad stat too, use it instead of the Mac at home now for most things.
tech_guy Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I've gone from being a rabid hater of all things Apple to a convert since owning an iPad. Mind you, I still think a lot of the other Apple products are poo. The iPad though is a brilliant tool. Overpriced, but still a brilliant tool. I use it to teach at a charity I do voluntary work for and it is indispensable.
Dos_Box Posted October 5, 2010 Author Posted October 5, 2010 So, Dos_box, what's the bottom ten platforms? I'm keen to know. Here y'go: Apparently a 'Danger Hiptop' is one of these: http://www.pdastreet.com/images/articles/t-mobile_open1.jpe Now who's using that then!!??
pete Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 It's amusing more people are using Linux than OSX. Not by much, mind, but it's nice to see. edit: *resolves to go home and fire up the Kindle to add more obscure OS' to the chart*
tom_newton Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Remarkably good on kindle, it is. oddly enough pete that was my first thought! Hope i beat you to it... is this the first kindle post?

tom_newton Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Well, back to tha laptop. Verdict: the link-heavy nature of the site (note i didnt use the mobile version) makes navigation hard with a "jumpy" pointer (kindly pings you from link to link). Screen refresh being so slow is not much of a problem. No problems logging in or searching. Minimal glitching. Hitting post resulted in a "try again in 30s" error... but I did, and it worked. Maybe becuase this machine is logged in as me behind the same NAT? Other than that, reading the board was pleasant enough, if sluggish (CPU bound probably.. this was on wifi rather than 3g). Using page-next button to move through posts was good. Even Dos_box's image of the danger hiptop rendered ok. Did expect it to be "phone like" and capitalise after punctuation mind. Dunno why, given the semi-complete kb. Speaking of which, you have to g softkey for a comma. Bah. No wonder kids these days are cack at punctuation. Dos_box - was I the 1st knindle?
Dos_Box Posted October 5, 2010 Author Posted October 5, 2010 (edited) Hi Tom you may very well be, but It's not going to be logged until tomorrow I'm afraid. I've attached a dump of the browsers being used to view the site. I never thought there were so many!!!Analytics_www.edugeek.net_20100904-20101004_(BrowsersReport).pdf Edited October 5, 2010 by Dos_Box

russdev Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Sadly I knew what that was (not me using it) it is a sidekick very popular mobile in usa among celebs couple of years back. T-mobile stuff got hacked while back. Also Paris Hilton address book was leaked which was kept on her sidekick. That info came to hand way to easy.. tom_newton Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 First and second, it would appear. Does look surprisingly good though. Yes - it would appear I managed to double-post.. its not the most responsive of browsers but as you say - it does *look* good - and i's be happy using it to search for info, and maybe the odd little post. I promise to give it a try posting here from the middle of the african bush at xmas. That'll give me a good browser/OS/location combo for Chris's stats!
