With Xmas fast approaching, Mrs Dos_Box suggested that getting a dance game for the kids to play via the TV would be a great way of providing them exrcise in teh winter monthsd without us having to trek to the nearest Wack-Warehouse in teh pouting rain or drag them to some rain sodden moor for some 'exercise'. She's seen one in Argos that plays through the TV here:

Buy Twin Dancers TV Games Mat. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

But the reviews seem hit and miss, and seeing as we have a decent spec media PC under teh TV anyway, I'm wondering if there isn't a really good PC dance game that uses (or comes with) mats. I'm after something quite junior with decent songs (not hardcore dance), and if you could import your own tracks then so much the better (cue MegaTokoyos 'Mosh Mosh Revolution!). I have some doubts that any of you personally would posess such items, but 'if you know somebody' that does, please leave your suggestions below.

do you have a video games console at home?

I've tried just dance on the wii that was pretty good, no mats but you use the wii remote to mimic actions

the playstation 3 has a dance game coming out soon similar to the wii one above but uses the playstation move motion control, the game is called singstar dance fyi

Stepmania and the various Packs of Songs available from DDR:UK will give you a wealth of songs, and there are number of community song packs from various sources to keep you up to date

There was one for the PS2 called Dance Factory which allowed you to import your own CDs and it would build a dance to them, worked really well with dance music actually. Dont know if you can get it for PC.

the ones which are standalone and plug into the tv themselves always seem extremely poor much better if it plugs into your games console or pc.

If you are looking for the best then you'll want a good commercial grade dance pad to go with that:

Fitness Gaming

Those soft mats tend to slip around when it gets difficult. And they don't last either.

As far as commercial games go you can get the original Konami Dance Dance Revolution game for the PC but it is out of print and a collectors item.

Dance Dance Revolution PC CD music groove sim game! BOX on eBay (end time 01-Nov-10 12:31:29 GMT)

Current versions from Konami seem to be released on WII only at this point in time.

Have fun
