creese Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Eh, do you think if I kept posting to Capita with Comic Sans they would fix SupportNet faster????
gibbo_ap Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 Don't make you own, go out and purchase some proper ones, there is a ruling with regards to signs etc but I cannot find the document, it was an act brought in in 2007 if I remember correctly. Your local council should have a Fire Safety advisor who can advise on the issue, failing that I notice you are in Staffs, contact Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service and they will be able to advise. I notice you are in Cheadle, the fire station there is crewed by retained firefighters who are not always on station so if you though I will pop down you will be out of luck, they do drill though on a Tuesday evening between 7 and 9pm. Cheers, although i am a bit worried that you know so much about cheadle lol i may bump into one of the fire men at the weekend some drink in my local... i was at anothers wedding party last sat too lol
MatthewL Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 I have involvement with Fire Service history and have just been doing some updates on the Staffordshire section this week, the information was literally under my nose when the post popped up!! Hope you get sorted.
twin--turbo Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 They should be to the latest EU design and specification, this includes IIRC no word "EXIT" as this is an english word and may not be understoof.. IIIRC , the current correct sign is green background, white figure running to a door with a representation of flames behind them. Rob
twin--turbo Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 http://www.freesignage.co.uk/pdfthumbs/fireevacuation/fire_exit_safe_condition_sign.png I think this is the most up to date imagery, but does have the text. It's 3 years ish since I did my last fire marshal course though. AND... RESPONSIBILITY Mrs Random burns to death in a fire at your school, Mr Random blames the poor sign-age... Who is responsible for the poor sign-age? Rob
Gatt Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Why is that font still available as an option on this site!! @ZeroHour please remove the offending font NOW!!
twin--turbo Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Thinking back, it may be that you can't just have a sign saying "Fire Exit" and must have a pictorial sign too... Anyway, regardless, it should be done right. I should not be too bothered as I am no longer a Marshal, but I did take it seriously. Rob
john Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) Signs have to have pictures and words Since the RRO was brought in the other year the assumption is anyone under the age of 10 years is unable to read, now I am sure you can all think of some teenagers that reading is a strange thing and those working in Primarys will strongly say that maybe by 5 or 6 the kids would be fine to read a sign saying Fire Exit Downstairs or something of those lines but some Guru / Expert decided that anyone under 10 is unable to read. Andrew_C Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 If you get over the "glow in the dark" issue, and not all of ours are FWIW... On Line Signs allows a whole range of signs to be custom printed with site specific wording.
