Hi,

I am looking for some Helpdesk software that is free and integrates with Active Directory.

I have had a look at SpiceWorks but would like to see what else is out there.

If anyone has any suggestions please :)

Thanks

I would Recommend speaking with Ozan regarding OP SmartDesk also, some fantastic features in the pipeline and the free version that exists at the moment should do everything you require.

You will probably laugh at this one but I would say SharePoint. Install the Application Helpdesk template and just re-jig it a little to suit your needs. It's AD integrated so your end users won't need to enter in usernames or passwords.

I'm not going to laugh because I have done this before for someone and it works very well! with MOSS 2007 you can actually download a template set which does most of the work for you. :) Still playing with 2010 but it seems much nicer with that if you can get the right setup. :)

We also use RequestTracker, but we are now trialling estreamdesk as it is part of the google apps marketplace, and hence integrates with our (AD integrated) google apps domain.

It installs into the google domain with a click, and is offsite so I don't need to worry about maintaining it.

I use this with my business domain. Very simple and easy to use system.

Kayako eSupport integrates with AD, however it's not free. Nothing even comes close to Kayako IMO.

I think they might even do some special educational pricing.

Currently using Liberum but looking to move to something more fully functional and polished. I like the look of kayako and have used it as and end user as one of my suppliers uses SupportSuite.

Will investigate educational pricing!!!

I use OTRS (otrs.org), it can be configured to use LDAP for authentication purposes. I will also happily pick up email sent to your helpdesk email address and can be extended to follow the ITIL framework for change control, etc. Additionally is it open source, so free.
