FN-GM Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Hi, I am looking for some Helpdesk software that is free and integrates with Active Directory. I have had a look at SpiceWorks but would like to see what else is out there. If anyone has any suggestions please Thanks
localzuk Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 RT - Request Tracker from Best Practical. Relatively complex to set up, but infinitely configurable. Best Practical: RT: Request Tracker That's what I use at my school.
Flakes Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 recently found GLPI and its great, its also an inventory and booking system for equipment. GLPI - Gestionnaire libre de parc informatique < open source and free. Integration with active directory was pretty easy too. P.S Dont worry theres an English and French version of it.
HMCTech Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 OP SmartDesk - Customer Support Made Easy. I think there is still a free version. I used to run the previous MyLittleHelpdesk and it was good but then we moved over to Kayako
sparkeh Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Hi, I have had a look at SpiceWorks but would like to see what else is out there. Stick with Spiceworks Seriously its the best thing I have found out there.
EduTech Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I would Recommend speaking with Ozan regarding OP SmartDesk also, some fantastic features in the pipeline and the free version that exists at the moment should do everything you require. James.
Chuckster Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 You will probably laugh at this one but I would say SharePoint. Install the Application Helpdesk template and just re-jig it a little to suit your needs. It's AD integrated so your end users won't need to enter in usernames or passwords.

I'm not going to laugh because I have done this before for someone and it works very well! with MOSS 2007 you can actually download a template set which does most of the work for you. Still playing with 2010 but it seems much nicer with that if you can get the right setup. James.
jamesfed Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Microsoft SharePoint Services has a plugin to make a IT helpdesk If your LP is based on SP then you should be able to mash it in with ease
CyberNerd Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 We also use RequestTracker, but we are now trialling estreamdesk as it is part of the google apps marketplace, and hence integrates with our (AD integrated) google apps domain. It installs into the google domain with a click, and is offsite so I don't need to worry about maintaining it.

Homer Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 We use WebHelpDesk - we have paid for it because we really like it (and we needed 4 tech licenses) but if you think you can get away with just one tech user, then it is free! Help Desk Software by Web Help Desk
CSNM-Carl Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Kayako eSupport integrates with AD, however it's not free. Nothing even comes close to Kayako IMO. I think they might even do some special educational pricing.
Butuz Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Currently using Liberum but looking to move to something more fully functional and polished. I like the look of kayako and have used it as and end user as one of my suppliers uses SupportSuite. Will investigate educational pricing!!! Butuz
sjatkn Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I use OTRS (otrs.org), it can be configured to use LDAP for authentication purposes. I will also happily pick up email sent to your helpdesk email address and can be extended to follow the ITIL framework for change control, etc. Additionally is it open source, so free.
JustSayNguyen Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I've found a lot of great information on this one site, http://www.support-software.org/index.php, it's pretty good for getting comparisons between multiple vendors at a time. I still haven't decided on one yet, but it's probably the best source I've found so far.
Gatt Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Web Help Desk FTW! We used it for IT last year and this year it's been passed to the site team.. can get the contact name if you need it
