paul Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Needless to say I already have the attached on my office door!expired.zip
mrforgetful Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 So can we now get hold of Vista from Ramesys or anywhere else cheaper? Also, I know the School Select Agreement gets us Business but is there a way to get Ultimate cheap too? Thanks.
CyberNerd Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 bah - our office has been xp free for 18 months due to linux upgrades
tscnmuk Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 We won't be XP free for a long, long time. Same here and to be honest i'm not overly bothered by it either. It it aint broke don't fix it.

Ah yes, that's the Spirit of progression! lol ok you got me there but I just think untill Vista has been more widely used it's not for us.
mrforgetful Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 I know exactly what you mean. I agree it won't be installed here for a good couple of years yet, hell we only went to XP in 2004! I just want it so I can start getting to know it, get a year or two head start before the users get it!

Plus some of our older equipment wouldn't handle vista and some of the staff have more then enough difficulty operating one operating system in the school let alone two.
OverWorked Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 We won't be XP free for a long, long time. What I meant is that:- a) none of our hardware meets the spec. (I really do mean *none* of it). b) we couldn't afford the upgrade licenses anyway. c) It'll be a couple of years, or maybe more, before we have enough hardware (with OEM Vista licenses) to use it. I'm not against Vista, it just that for reasons of software and hardware cost it'll be out of our reach for a few years.
john Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 So can we now get hold of Vista from Ramesys or anywhere else cheaper? Also, I know the School Select Agreement gets us Business but is there a way to get Ultimate cheap too? Thanks. Yes Ramesys have it, they had it before Crimbo, I did post a yay hip hip horah thread in Vista about it. Ulitmate is not avalable on VL, so its OEM or Retail only, but if you are really that desperate, its only just over £100 +vat OEM! and you still only need to get a keyboard or mouse with it to get it, so time to stock up on cheap optical mice and get Ultimate Windows for what is really a very good price considering the full retail is over £300
eejit Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Cheers John - overclockers have it for £114 but I don't think that you need to buy any hardware with it. Any lower than that? Can we beat the £100 limit?
mrforgetful Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Aria.co.uk have it at £106.95 but like overclockers it's only a pre-order. John - Last time I spoke to Ramesys I was told I'd get an email after Crimbo...still waiting lol.
john Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 CCL have it for £101.87+vat for schools http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=11759&category_id=454&manufacturer_id=0 same price for X86 and X64 so take your pick. @eejit as its OEM you HAVE TO purchase an item of hardware with it, it used to state none-perhiperal hardware so it was Hard Drive, CPU, Motherboard etc, but MS relaxed the rules a bit since so you could get a cheap 99p (or less if your supplier had them) mouse or keyboard with the OS. Any supplier selling OEM software without the correct hardware produce can be fined heavily as its breaking the agreement for the sale of it. @mrforgetful, GRRR to Ramesys! I have not ordered my media kit yet, still gotta find the £20 in the tatterd budget for it, but I was told that orders were being taken with first shipments being out before Christmas so that they would be with the schools for the New Year. Just keep harassing and eventually after threatening to go else where and saying you will get the LEA involved if its not sorted (that works after you have sent the order in mind you) they tend to actually start to move.
mrforgetful Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 My main concern with Ramesys is what they charge for media. £20. I understood it when it was official CDs, but now they just download them from the Microsoft VL site that is just ridiculous. I'll be downloading my own CDs now from illegitamate places to save the money. We should be entitled to download from that site. (I know the argument has been done before)
OverWorked Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I don't know if this is mentioned anywhere else, but I've just seen this - Government agency tells schools to shun Vista.
